Freedom City OKC

Freedom City is looking for volunteers! We have a multitude of opportunities available at different partner locations within the OKC Metro. Our primary focus is Reading and Math tutoring and Pen Pals. We serve students Pre-K through 8th grade from a variety of schools throughout the metro who are behind in reading and math achievement. Our opportunities are as follows: - Reading and Math Tutors Monday through Friday, at 8:15 - 9am at 3:15 - 4pm at EPIC Charter Schools, - Reading and Math Tutors and mentors Wednesdays and Thursdays from 4:00 - 5:30 pm at Boys and Girls Club. - Reading and Math Tutors Monday through Thursday from 4 - 5pm at KIPP OKC - Freedom City After-School Program. - Pen Pals for our 1st - 3rd grade students in our KIPP OKC - Freedom City After-School program. What a great first week of Summer Program at Freedom City. We are so grateful to KIPP OKC Public Schools for allowing us to use their site over the Summer so we can serve students and families. A big thank you to @MorningStar Storage - Penn Ave. for being a partner in our move! Lastly, we are super excited for our partnership with Bubba's 33 OKC for feeding our students on fun Fridays!

Last night was so much fun watching our Afterschool program students beat local Oklahoma professionals Glen McCall Evan Walter, CTFA Carrie Blumert, MPH and Thurman R. in our Are you Smarter? competition fundraiser. These professionals were good sports after losing 100 - 70. Our questions, asked by our amazing emcee Monica Ybarra Weedn were focused on our mission to remove barriers for students through academics and exposure to extracurriculars and career options. We are immensely grateful to our sponsors McLaughlin Family Foundation First United Bank Tinker Federal Credit Union OGE Energy Corp. BancFirst Quail Creek Bank Bank of Oklahoma and Alliant Insurance Services, Inc and Valliance Bank who made this event possible, allowing us to continue our good work.

At the start of #WomensHistoryMonth we would like to highlight our Founder and Executive Director, Brittany Carter-Thomas. Freedom City, Inc was a dream of hers that she made a reality and in a short five years, she has grown the nonprofit to 14 fulltime employees, seven core programs, six partner schools and two program sites. We are serving more than 100 students and families, removing barriers and exposing them to extra-curriculars and career options in the hopes to give them access to all things life has to offer.
