Plastic packaging waste in Europe has been steadily increasing over the past decade. In 2022, a total of 36.1 kg (79.5 lb) per capita of plastic packaging waste was produced in the EU, up from nearly 30 kg (66 lb) per capita in 2012. However, recycling rates have also increased during this time.
