Congratulations to Kenneth “Casey” W., our Global Head of Cybersecurity and Privacy, who has been named to the 2024 Top Global CISOs Awards list by Cyber Defense Magazine. Learn more about Casey’s dedication to cybersecurity and his role at FTI Consulting below. What does being named to the 2024 Top Global CISOs Awards list mean to you? Casey: First off, it’s the recognition is a tremendous honor. It reflects not just my personal dedication to the field of cybersecurity, but also the collective efforts of my team at FTI Consulting. This recognition underscores our commitment to advancing cybersecurity practices and protecting our clients’ critical assets. It’s a testament to the hard work and the innovative strategies we’ve implemented to stay ahead of evolving threats. When did you know you wanted to pursue a career in cybersecurity? Casey: My interest in cybersecurity sparked during my time in the U.S. Army. Serving in various capacities, I witnessed firsthand the importance of securing information and the devastating impact of cyber threats. This experience ignited a passion for cybersecurity, leading me to pursue a career where I could make a significant impact in protecting organizations from cyber risks. How has your role evolved over the years? Casey: Over the years, my role has evolved significantly. Initially, it was about understanding and mitigating immediate threats (reactive approach). Today, it’s much more strategic. Over the 17 years I’ve been at FTI Consulting, I’ve developed and been able to focus on building a comprehensive security program, using multiple regulatory and best practice frameworks, advising on regulatory compliance, and integrating cybersecurity into the broader business strategy. The landscape of cyber threats has of course become more complex, but our change to this more proactive and holistic approach to security has served us well. What is your top personal cybersecurity tip? Casey: My top personal cybersecurity tip is to always be vigilant and proactive. Staying ahead of threats through regular updates to software and systems, the use of strong, unique passwords, and enabling multi-factor authentication wherever possible are “table stakes” for a strong cyber defense. Also, cybersecurity is not just the responsibility of IT departments; it’s a shared responsibility. Staying informed and cautious can significantly reduce the risk of cyber incidents. After earning her bachelor’s degree in finance from the University of Cape Town, Hannah Hill relocated to Johannesburg to join the TMT Investment Banking team at FTI Capital Advisors. Read on to learn about Hannah's experience and interests! What attracted you to the firm? Hannah: What initially attracted me to the firm was the opportunity to explore both consulting and investment banking through cross-staffing. I wasn’t entirely sure which path would best suit me, but during the cross-staffing experience, I found that I really enjoyed the investment banking work, the opportunity to engage with clients and the team I was working with. I also recognised an opportunity to work closely with Yana Kamburova, a Senior Managing Director, and contribute to building the team in South Africa. While the learning curve has been steep and testing at times, I’ve learnt a lot from my colleagues and from exposure to situations that have pushed me out of my comfort zone. These experiences have contributed to my growth, both professionally and personally. How does the strong female presence in your office impact you? Hannah: The office is led by Yana, who I am lucky to work closely with. In an often male-dominated industry, having senior female representation is incredibly important to me. I feel fortunate to work alongside and learn from Yana, who also began her career at FTICA as an Analyst. She sets a great example of achieving a healthy work-life balance, successfully juggling both her role as a mother and her career, which is something I admire. Tell us about the steep learning curve that you mentioned. Hannah: As a result of being part of a smaller team, I’ve been working directly with senior leaders, from Vice Presidents to Senior Managing Directors. This has come with a high level of responsibility, from delivering client outputs to engaging with clients and handling overall office responsibilities. While I’ve faced challenges along the way, I’m incredibly proud of how far I’ve come and how much I’ve learned at such a junior level. Could you share your best memory from the Junior Level Offsite in Dubai? Hannah: I loved the JLO because it provided an incredible opportunity for our cross-continental team to come together and interact in person. This year, I arrived in Dubai a bit earlier and had the chance to spend time working with the team before the training officially started. I thoroughly enjoyed building deeper connections with my colleagues, experiencing a new office environment and soaking in all that Dubai has to offer. It’s hard to pinpoint just one “best” memory because there are so many! However, one unforgettable experience was running a half-marathon with some of my colleagues. It was definitely a challenge (especially without proper preparation), but it was also an amazing opportunity to bond outside the office and create lasting memories. #FTICA #TeamFTI

Robert Skeffington, Head of Australia Strategic Communications, is celebrating his 10th anniversary with #TeamFTI. Below, he offers his best advice and discusses the importance of building a legacy in your career. Congratulations, Robert! How has FTI Consulting evolved since you joined? Robert: In my 10 years, FTI Consulting is unrecognisable from when I started. It has grown at an amazing clip, and my colleagues have been keen to grow so we can deliver something impactful to our clients and teams. What is the best advice you’ve ever received? Robert: It is a marathon, not a sprint. This is a cliché, but it keeps you grounded. There will be those who demand instant results, but impact and sustainability take time. And it takes courage to be committed to this. What is your greatest accomplishment? Robert: I was speaking to James Thomson, who is now Australia’s premier finance and business columnist. He told me that he carves out time to review the work of junior reporters. The reason he does this is because when I was a senior columnist, and he was a junior reporter, he appreciated that I took the time to review his copy. At the end of the day, this is our greatest legacy – providing others with the platform to build their careers and achieve the impact they deserve. How do you spend your free time? Robert: I have always made an effort to spend time with my family – they are my true joy. Although, I am noticing that as my children get older, I am getting particularly focused on how they can now build their careers. I am trying to convey not just advice, but wisdom. Time will tell (and the tough critics that are my kids) whether I get this right.
