With Thanksgiving coming up fast, I’d like to say thanks to everyone I work with at Gables Search Group — not just my colleagues, but the people who trust their career paths and talent searches to me every day. When I think of gratitude in my work, a lot of things come to mind. - The gift of being trusted with people’s career aspirations - The sense of accomplishment I get when I connect the right person with the right job - The knowledge that a hire is a moment in time — but that moment can lead to great things for both the person and the company that hires them Gratitude is not just a greeting card category. It’s a core value that I believe serves everyone in every line of work. Wishing you and your loved ones (and office mates, and bosses, and employees, and peers) a joyful Thanksgiving filled with warmth, laughter, and gratitude. #Thanksgiving #Gratitude #ItsAGift

Do your people have a grasp on how to use GenAI tools? Be honest. Even as 90% of CHROs boast that their business uses AI to improve processes, there’s another side to the story… According to Gallup, only 6% of workers currently feel very comfortable using AI. The great majority feel unprepared. Wiley found that 40% of workers don’t even understand how AI could be integrated into their work, and also found that 75% of folks lack the confidence to use it. But in the great panic-race to use GenAI within business, a lot of companies are overlooking an advantage they have: Employees actually want to learn it. They just need help. That means more than simply handing them AI tools and hoping for the best. Smart companies have a strategy to support their workforces in using AI to speed up everyday work. One survey found that employees who feel their organization has a “clear plan for AI” are almost four times as likely to feel comfortable using it in their role. In my daily work as a President and CEO, helping client companies find talent (and vice versa), the AI conversation comes up again and again. One thing is clear: It’s going to happen. And companies who support their employees in using it have an advantage. #HRnews #AIatwork

Pay transparency gets a lot of airtime. People want to know what a job pays before they invest their valuable time in applying. After all, even the most incredible job in the world is not viable if it does not pay enough. As a recruiter for 28+ years, “How much does it pay?” is one of the most common questions I hear up front. But now, in HR circles, I’m hearing more and more about another concept: the salary floor. This is the baseline amount that every employee in a company will make. While it’s not exactly relevant to the pay of a specific position — after all, a contender for a management or leadership role doesn’t necessarily care about the salary floor — this metric is indicative of a company’s general talent economics and pay transparency values. As one excellent example that Worklife shared last month, the independent, nonprofit news agency 19th News, headquartered in Austin, has a salary floor of $70K in a market where the average journalist makes far less: $57K. Reading this, I think, “19th News is committed to paying talent well.” Important to publishing salary floors: revisit them periodically to ensure they align with cost-of-living increases. Otherwise, it’s all just lip service. #salaryfloor
