America's most urgent infrastructure project: Preserving and expanding the busiest section of the Northeast Corridor.
About us
The Gateway Program is the most urgent infrastructure program in the country – a comprehensive rail investment program that will improve commuter and intercity services, add needed resiliency and create new capacity for the busiest section of the Northeast Corridor (NEC). The NEC is the most heavily used passenger rail line in the country hosting more than 2,200 train movements and 800,000 passenger trips daily. The Gateway Development Commission (GDC) is a single-purpose bi-State agency with Board members representing Amtrak and the States of New York and New Jersey. GDC is the project sponsor for the Hudson Tunnel Project.

We recently released the Request for Qualifications for the New Jersey Surface Alignment (NJSA) Project. This project involves building approximately 1.5 miles of above ground trackway that will enable the existing NEC tracks in New Jersey to connect to the entrance to the new Hudson Tunnel. Starting the procurement process for this project is an exciting milestone that reflects how far we’ve come in just one year of construction and keeps us moving full steam ahead.
