When Joe was diagnosed with a genetic mutation impacting his blood cells, fear and uncertainty filled his life. But thanks to a clinical trial funded by Gateway, everything has changed. Through Dr. Bolton's trial at Washington University in St. Louis, Joe has been able to receive life-saving treatment close to home. 'Gateway's ability to provide the funding for this trial has saved my life. Today, his blood levels are normal, his hope is restored, and he looks forward to seeing his daughter get married and sharing many more years with his loved ones. https://lnkd.in/gGz87RjB #BeAGateway #CancerResearch #GatewayForCancerResearch #PatientStories

About us
Our vision is to shape a world in which a cancer diagnosis is no longer feared. Our mission is to accelerate practice-changing discoveries in cancer care by harnessing the unrelenting passion of the research community and empowering patients to triumph over their disease. Who We Are Since its inception in 1991, Gateway for Cancer Research has been harnessing the passion and drive of a global community of brilliant physicians, benevolent philanthropists and brave patients to advance transformational, early stage clinical trials for all types of cancer. This includes rare cancers for which funding is scarce as well as some of the most prevalent cancers affecting men, women and children today. Gateway exclusively funds Phase I and Phase II research trials, which often mark the first-in-human study of promising new cancer drugs and therapies. As such, they represent a critical first step in evaluating new cancer treatments that help patients live longer and feel better while working to end cancer as we know it. To date, Gateway has invested more than $114 million to advance 234 cancer clinical trials. Conducted at esteemed institutions around the world, these trials have offered HOPE and HEALING to more than 30,000 patients and families. In the process, they have altered the standard of care at some of the most trusted hospitals and health care institutions. Additionally, they have contributed to the development of new FDA-approved treatments and therapies that improve quality of life and save lives. In the process, Gateway has never forgotten that its work is ALWAYS and ONLY be about the patient. Lung cancer has seen a 96% relative increase in the 5-year survival rate since 1991. Despite being the leading cause of cancer death, there has been a nearly 50% drop in lung cancer deaths since 1991. A Gateway-funded clinical trial is the only known ongoing study of a personalized vaccine used in first-line therapy for small-cell lung cancer. https://lnkd.in/gkJ6jSGY #BeAGateway #CancerResearch #GatewayForCancerResearch

The 21st International Conference of The Society for Integrative Oncology aimed to establish evidence-based standards for integrative cancer therapies. It highlighted the latest research and innovative methodologies to improve patient quality of life. The goal was to inspire clinicians to update their practices and researchers to explore new avenues. We were honored to have our Director of Clinical Science, Hunter Patton-Gentert, PharmD on the panel of the SIO workshop - “Getting your Integrative Oncology Proposals Funded: Practical Advice from Experts and Funders”. Representing Gateway for Cancer Research, Hunter provided valuable insight into the grant process and shared best practices for moving early career investigators ideas forward. “I was grateful for the chance to speak on a panel at The Society for Integrative Oncology 2024 Conference, educating early career investigators about opportunities at Gateway, as well as how to enhance their study designs to promote effective and meaningful investigation of integrative oncology care. By doing so, we will continue to support the most impactful, evidence-based, and patient-centered oncology clinical trials.” Hunter Patton-Genert, PharmD Director of Clinical Science Gateway for Cancer Research

Treanor Baring was diagnosed with triple-negative stage III breast cancer. When medication-induced severe colitis threatened to end her cancer treatment, her hopes of beating triple-negative stage III breast cancer diminished. After being in a Gateway-funded clinical trial at MD Anderson Cancer Center and being able to continue her cancer treatment, she is finally cancer-free. #BeAGateway #CancerResearch #GatewayForCancerResearch #PatientStories
