About us
We are accelerating the world's transformation to sustainable materials, by replacing fossil fuel sources with plants. We believe that all products should be responsibly sourced, traceable, and transparent — the sustainable source™. At Geno, we are breaking the planet's reliance on these fossil fuels by creating something better. Our vision to drive climate action at scale starts by making the same molecules, ingredients, and materials we rely on every day, but deriving them from more sustainable sources. Spanning products across a wide variety of industries, Geno’s technologies power high-performance at leading scale and volume, delivering plant-derived ingredients to some of the world’s largest brands. And with that we are shaping the creation of more transparent, traceable, and responsible global supply chains for brands and their consumers to rely on. Our technology and capabilities, developed and honed over two decades, harness the ever-increasing power of biotechnology, where microorganisms and industrial processes are designed to ferment plant sugars into materials and ingredients. Geno's Innovation Center is home to our world-class research and development team of engineers and scientists who have deployed more than $300 million in technology investment, collaborating to create a portfolio of 2,200 patents and applications. The IP covers product pathways, synthetic biology approaches to engineering microorganisms, processes to bio-manufacture products, their sometimes unique biological compositions, and product applications. We work closely with some of the world’s leading brands to develop solutions that align superior performance and economics with sustainability. We also produce and market our own branded products and license our geno technology to some of the world’s largest manufacturers including Novamont, Qore® (a joint venture of Cargill and HELM), Covestro, and Aquafil. Geno's Sasha Calder and Hyosung Corporation's Simon Whitmarsh-Knight sit down to talk about Hyosung's (the world's largest spandex producer) $1B investment in scaling Geno powered plant-based BDO. Together, they discuss how the each company is supporting the other and larger industry in accelerating impact, building resilient supply chains and delivering urgent drop in materials to the market, at scale. Geno is proud to be heading to Omaha, Nebraska to the World Bio Markets & Bio Innovations Midwest next month - sharing how Geno's technology and materials, and support of US farmers and infrastructure is driving and rebuilding more supply chain resilience here at home in the USA.
In this presentation from #WBM24, Sasha Calder from Geno and Simon Whitmarsh-Knight from Hyosung Corporation discuss how they’re working together to accelerate the materials transition and how Geno’s technology drove Hyosung’s recent $1 billion investment in scaling plant-based BDO. Geno is incredibly honored to be receive the United States Department of Defense's award through the Distributed Bioindustrial Manufacturing Program (DBIMP) aimed at bolstering America's bioeconomic strengths while helping the Department achieve advanced defense capabilities. In August, Geno was awarded an initial $1.51 million grant that provides the opportunity to potentially receive a follow-on grant of up to $100 million to build a U.S based bioindustrial manufacturing facility. As a biotechnology pioneer and leader, Geno has already successfully scaled BDO technology, soon to be deployed in a $300 milion investment by Cargill and HELM AG in Eddyville, Iowa and most recently with the world's largest spandex producer, Hyosung Corporation's over $1 billion dollar investment in scaling Geno BDO technology. Additionally, Geno’s innovative personal care and functional health ingredients, Brontide® Natural Butylene Glycol™ and Avela™ (R)-1,3-Butanediol ™ respectively, are readily available at popular retailers and across markets at scale, today. This DOD grant allows Geno to begin the next chapter and establish a first-of-a-kind facility at home in the US - capable of producing a suite of critical ingredients from renewable resources. Not only do these ingredients have well-established markets and customers that are eager to build more transparent and traceable supply chains of US grown feedstocks, thereby diversifying output at commercial scale, Geno’s multi-product biomanufacturing facility will also mitigate risks associated with global market and supply chain disruptions and maintain supply of critical precursor chemicals to DOD. We'll be sharing more details in the upcoming weeks. But for now, we're busy at work. Go Geno Go!

It's all about supply chain resilience. Thanks for sharing and supporting the work Geno is doing - with Future Origins to develop resilient supply chains for palm oil alternatives, here in the US heartland.
By developing technologies and processes to create alternative domestic sources of essential products, members Geno, Kultevat, and California Cultured Inc. are reimagining supply chains for materials traditionally sourced from the rainforest with biotechnology: https://buff.ly/4d56DKn

Okay - Paris, we see you. Fashion never looked so good. 🏅 Geno is over the moon that our plant-based nylon is competing on the world stage with lululemon's Olympic and Paralympics kits. We may be a little biased, but isn't this gear striking gold in both performance and sustainability? The athlete version of the Team Canada Translucent Hooded Jacket, featuring at least 40% Geno-powered plant-based nylon, isn't just turning heads—it's breaking records for sustainable fashion and the materials transition. 🧥 Every time Team Canada gets onto the podium, they're not only winning medals but also setting a new standard for how brands can make the transition from fossil-based to plant-based materials. We'll be cheering loudly for Team Canada, Team lululemon, and of course, Team Geno! We're going for gold, together!
In this gear, it's Games on! #TeamCanada #OpeningCeremony

Meet Sanchari Ghosh, Ph.D., Process Design Engineer at Geno, total rock star, and one of the driving forces behind some of our products powering the #MaterialsTransition, including nylon! Check out this insightful article in The Chemical Engineer written by Adam Duckett of the Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) showcasing Sanchari's innovative work in bringing biomass to the masses and the path she took to get here. Speaking about her desire for partnership between petro-based companies and biotech companies like Geno, Sanchari notes, “What I really want to see is these petro-based companies and us working together for the same mission.” We’re so grateful you’re part of the Geno team, Sanchari Ghosh, Ph.D.! #Sustainability #BioTech #EarthMonth https://lnkd.in/gupzAnk7
