On Veterans Day, SEI Distinguished External Fellow, Colonel John Tien, guest lectured at the United States Military Academy at West Point and helped advise academically accomplished cadets such as First Class Cadet Shepherd Y. Dzina who won a Rhodes Scholarship on Saturday, November 16, 2024 (link below; photo: John Tien on left, Cadet Dzina on right; other photo is John Tien with select cadets from a political science class and having lunch at the West Point Cadet Mess Hall). Georgia Tech Assistant Professor Pengfei Liu of the School of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences had some surprising findings when he researched the connection between health and atmospheric chemistry in the Southeastern US. Chief among them was that if "we can reduce the temperature sensitivity to air pollutants and then a warmer summer will not mean terrible air pollution."
