This week, we celebrated moms, teachers and nurses for their hard work, knowledge, and compassion. We appreciate you! We also offer special kudos to the GNWL #menstrualhealth educators in Burkina Faso, Mme. Sakande and Mme. Bonkoungou for their unwavering dedication. Your passion for teaching girls about their period has ignited the spark! We're breaking the taboos of period shame and starting conversations between mothers and daughters, and the boys and men in their lives. GNWL can't thank you enough for your sacrifice. We look forward to celebrating #MenstrualHygieneDay with you on the 28th!

We might not speak the same language as English is not one of the spoken languages in Burkina Faso, (Our official language is French), but you can tell by the way these 4th & and 5th grade girls said, “Thank You”, you can tell by the giggles, you can tell by the claps, you can tell by the smiles that those 76 girls meant it, and I also say THANK YOU! 🙏 Bienvenue Konsimbo Girl Now Woman Later (CEO)

Through our Champions of Change campaign, GNWL is celebrating #BlackHistoryMonth2024. We’re reminding girls in #Africa that even if they haven’t heard of African female leaders or activists, they exist. There are past/present female activists and advocates who deserve our respect. Women are still fighting to bring changes for equal rights, fair education, and for all females to have a seat at the table. Every day should be a celebration of the countless women and men who have shed tears, sweat, and blood to bring a change to the African continent. They remind us that silence is not an OPTION! Then: The Unbowed Dr. Wangari Muta Maathai, a Kenyan social, environmentalist, and political activist, became the first African female to win a #NobelPrize. She was quieted by her government because she wanted her country to participate in fair elections. Dr. Maathai then created the #GreenBelt Movement, an organization that leads the way for fair elections, sustainable development, democracy, and the advancement of women’s rights. We will remember her work best with the quote, “We all need to work hard to make a difference in our neighborhoods, regions, and countries, and in the world as a whole.” Now: Vanessa Nakate is Africa's young climate activist leader from Uganda. As an advocate for clean energy, she held the Glasgow Climate Pact /COP 26 accountable for the global greenhouse gas emissions of fossil fuels impact on the least developed countries. Through Nakate’s organization, #RiseUpMovement Africa and #FridaysForFuture chapter in Uganda, Nakate reminds us that #globalwarming has begun and the African youth movement will not stay silent or be erased. #Trailblazer #WangariMaathai #VanessaNakate #activist #africanfemaleleader #prodemocracy #unbowed #noterase #girlnowwomanlater Photo credit 1 : Photograph: Martin Godwin/Guardian Photo credit 2: Vanessa Nakate speaks at the Youth4Climate Pre-COP26 Event in Milan on Sept. 28.
