We were honored to welcome Dr. Amy Myers, a dear friend of our founder Jeni, and her daughter Elle on their first visit to Kenya! 💛  In 2019, Dr. Amy Myers established the Betty Myers Memorial Scholarship in honor of her mother. This annual award recognizes a GLOW Girl who exemplifies leadership and excellence in humanitarian service.   Pictured are three remarkable awardees of the memorial scholarship alongside GLOW alumna and staff. Dr. Amy Myers was deeply moved by the girls' resilience, hard work, and dedication—qualities that reminded her of her own journey as a student and during the Peace Corps, and experiences that shaped her into the powerhouse she is today. Asha, a fourth-year Computer Science student and a GLOW Girl, recently completed a transformative volunteer role with the ICT Department of the County Government of Marsabit. Her responsibilities included computer maintenance, networking, hub configuration, ICT systems support, hardware repairs, printer setup, and software installation. Through this experience, Asha strengthened her skills in system administration, computer assembly, ICT support, networking, and troubleshooting. She also developed her professional work ethic, interpersonal skills, teamwork abilities, and social fund management. Asha chose this opportunity to gain practical skills beyond the classroom, applying her knowledge to real-world scenarios. When devastating floods hit Kenya, Mercy stepped up as a volunteer with the Nakuru County Department of Disaster Management. She was responsible for conducting a field assessment in severely impacted villages where rivers had overflown. Mercy collected data on the number of households, road conditions, and the safety of housing to facilitate immediate humanitarian aid and evacuation plans. Her comprehensive report, which included evidence and photographs, was presented to the chief officers and played a crucial role in securing prompt assistance for the affected communities.
