Thank you, Goodwill Industries International, for having us!🙌 At the Sustainable Business Club (SBC), we’re all about creating opportunities for experiential learning and growth. One of our core goals is to bridge the gap between how sustainability is discussed and how it’s actually implemented in real-world operations. That’s why we’re focused on building meaningful partnerships with organizations that are truly making a difference. Recently, we had the privilege to tour Goodwill’s South Florida operational facility, a 40-million-pound capacity center, hosted by General Manager Bill Eckler and District Manager Magui F.. It was incredible to see how a nonprofit like Goodwill has developed such a robust and sustainable business model. Here are some highlights that stood out: ~Repurposing Textiles: This facility alone repurposes over 360,000 pounds of stained or torn linens each year. Multiply that across all of Goodwill’s North American facilities, and the impact on the circular economy is staggering!♻️ ~Water and Energy Savings: Their innovative water recycling system saves 10.6 million gallons of water annually, while they use advanced methods to monitor and reduce energy consumption—all while meeting Energy Star standards.⭐ Call this operational excellence in action! ~Creating Social Impact: Goodwill doesn’t stop at environmental sustainability; they are committed to advancing social mobility. By creating jobs for individuals with disabilities and barriers to employment, they’re transforming lives and communities.🌍 What struck me the most is how seamlessly these efforts come together. Goodwill isn’t just reducing their environmental footprint; they’re creating real value across the board. From repurposing textiles to fostering employment opportunities, their model is both impactful and inspiring. A huge thank you to Conchita Topinka, Paloma Suarez Biglieri, Teddy L'Houtellier, Bill Eckler, and Magui F. for facilitating this experience. Witnessing these operations firsthand was a powerful reminder that real impact happens when investments, environmental, and social goals align.💡 University of Miami Herbert Business School, Miami Herbert Unanue Graduate Career Advancement, Goodwill Industries of South Florida, Lissabeth Mena, Estelle Allaire, Adam Benomar, Oriana El Fakih Collantes, Paul A.
