While visiting a rural town I had an encounter with another senior struggling to use his phone. Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services now requires Medicare Adv plans to offer #digitalliteracy support so folks need to step up their game. Here’s what I learned: 1. The smartphone is pretty much a lifeline for him 2. He wants to learn how to use some of the functions on his phone, including voice memos and emailing them 3. He has Medicare but doesn’t understand his plan or what resources are available to him 4. He has NEVER logged into a health portal 5. He doesn’t read his email How do we still have such a long way to go to respond to the digital literacy needs of underserved people?
