Co-creation activities in #Athens ongoing! 🌈 Residents are reimagining the Profitis Ilias Park with more recreational areas, safety spaces and accessibility and better maintenance.👇🏽
🌿Re-imagining Profitis Ilias Park - Together! On February 9th, as part of the GreenInCities Horizon project, we held a participatory workshop in Rizoupoli, Athens, where 40+ residents came together to reimagine Profitis Ilias Park! ✅ What we did: 🔸 Engaged the community in open discussions 🔸 Assessed key aspects like accessibility, vitality & urban equipment 🔸 Co-designed & prioritized improvements based on their real needs 🔸 Ensured collaborative decision-making for a truly inclusive park 🔍 Key concerns raised: ✔️ More recreational areas & meeting spaces (e.g., playground area, kiosk) ✔️ Improved safety & accessibility ✔️ Better maintenance of the green areas 📌 The residents asked for more areas for children to play, basic infrastructure like water taps and accessibility ramps, while a group of mothers requested sitting elements near play areas so they can rest while their children play! The results from this workshop, combined with the outcomes of the workshops with the nearby schools, will help us prioritize the interventions before moving into the design process! ✏️ This is what community-driven urban transformation looks like in action. Together, we have the ability to shape better public spaces!🌍 #urbana #CommunityEngagement #GreenInCities #UrbanPlanning #PublicSpaces #SustainableCities #ParticipatoryPlanning #FeministPlanning #Athens #Rizoupoli #HorizonEU

🌿 Nature in Mind: An Interview with Dr. Dr Bruno Marques 🌿 In this interview with Dr. Bruno Marques, President of the International Federation of Landscape Architects (IFLA), we discuss the connection between landscape architecture, mental health, and cultural perspectives on well-being. Dr. Marques shares his thoughts on: 🌿 The connection between the urban environment and human well-being 🌿 Indigenous perspectives on landscape, health, and storytelling 🌿 IFLA’s global impact and its collaborations with the United Nations and other organizations 🌿 The launch of IFLA’s "WORKS with Nature" project 🌿 His vision for future cities and the value of green spaces for our mental health "I think that's what we try to battle a lot too as landscape architects but also as the International Federation of Landscape Architects: to make sure that nature is not an afterthought, nature is not a silly investment that you can just cut the funds upfront because you don't see the use of it [...] to make sure that our local authorities, our regional authorities, our national governments are very aware of [the current research into nature-based solutions]. Nature should be at the front of anything we do and that should be the vision for a city as well." 📺 Watch the full interview here: https://lnkd.in/d6b6q4qG 📖 Read the full transcript on our blog: https://lnkd.in/d2HU_Jp8 #mentalhealth #nature #architect #naturebasedsolutions #podcast #futurecity GreenME Project GreenInCities

🚨 Myth vs. Reality: Can Urban Sprawl Go on Forever? A common misconception in urban development is that “urban sprawl can go on forever.” The belief that cities can expand indefinitely without consequences is far from the truth. 🚧 The reality? According to the NetworkNature EU Myths Booklet, unchecked urban sprawl leads to: ❌ Biodiversity loss & habitat fragmentation ❌ Increased environmental degradation ❌ More emissions & inefficient infrastructure That’s where GreenInCities comes in! 🌱 By integrating Nature-based Solutions (NbS) and sustainable urban planning, we aim to reshape our cities into greener, more connected, and resilient spaces. ✅ Enhancing urban biodiversity ✅ Strengthening ecosystem connectivity ✅ Co-designing green spaces with local communities Read the booklet here: https://lnkd.in/dWj2MG-R #GreenInCities #NetworkNature #UrbanRegeneration #Nature #Biodiversity #NatureBasedSolutions
