To advance research and care for those living with Parkinson’s disease, Griffin Catalyst and the The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research (MJFF) had an ambitious goal: develop a new tool capable of visualizing—for the first time—a key protein found in the brains of those living with Parkinson’s disease. In March 2023, after a global competition, MJFF selected Merck as the winner of the Ken Griffin Alpha-synuclein Imaging Competition, unlocking an additional $1.5 million for the research team to advance the newly-developed imaging tracer for Parkinson’s disease to human trials.
