GGE had the honor of hosting a 5-Day residency with renowned artist Ezra Wube, who worked closely with resident artist Gloria I. Rivera, staff and community members to create a stop motion project we named "Engleroots"! Fresh off the screening at this week's Friends of the High Line symposium in Detroit, we present it here for you to enjoy! We had a blast working with Ezra, thank you High Line Network! The Plant recently hosted a delegation of journalists, academics, and students from Pakistan as part of a Green Urban Development exchange program in collaboration with the Institute of Urbanism, U.S. Embassy Islamabad, Pakistan, and The Egan Office UECP at DePaul University Steans Center. The delegation, visiting from Islamabad, also explored key institutions and sites such as the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago, The Talking Farm, and GROW GREATER ENGLEWOOD, gaining insights into best practices for sustainable urban development and opportunities for international collaboration on water conservation, waste management, and green infrastructure. July marks one year of Greening America's Cities, a multi-year $400M initiative by the Bezos Earth Fund (BEF) to invest primarily in community environmental justice organizations through 2030. The Chicago Community Trust hosts BEF Community Fellow Katanya Raby, who works with BEF to ensure resources invested in the community have maximum benefit for the community. Through grants made in #Chicago, organizations have come together to have deep conversations and lay the groundwork for what a shared vision in greening, resiliency, and environmental justice, intentionality, legacy, and healing can look like in the region. Together, we are #GreeningAmericasCities. Urban farms and other food-related businesses play an important role in addressing food insecurity and improving food access on Chicago's South Side, helping to restore jobs, opportunity and hope in economically challenged communities. If you haven't seen this up close, the 3rd annual Chicago Urban Ag Crawl & Backyard BBQ will be a great chance to do so. Artistic practice update! Last week I had the honor of unveiling a manifestation of a creative idea—a symbol of determined resilience. A public art piece for the neighborhood where I grew up that we at Englewood Arts Collective hope will be catalytic in continuing active, loving, powerful positive transformations in the area. Sparked by GROW GREATER ENGLEWOOD / Anton Seals Jr. “we deserve beautiful spaces” campaign I designed the logo for last year, this “living sculpture” will grow, the plants inside tended to by their stewardship, as they and SO many other amazing residents + orgs continue to transform the neighborhood. EAC is passionately ready to continue to amplify the beauty within, that’s always been.
