Igniting H2 Transport Innovation Ecosystems in the North Sea Region

About us

H2ignite is a Interreg North Sea Programme Project focused on developing four cross-sector hydrogen innovation ecosystems to accelerate the transition to green hydrogen in the North Sea Region. The project adresses critical challenges by: 1. Establishing regional hydrogen innovation ecosystems across sectors. 2. Developing and testing business models for hydrogen transport value chains, including heavy-duty vehicles (HDVs) and vessels. 3. Bridging the gap between policymakers and businesses through cross-sector dialogue. 4. Promoting hydrogen policy innovations, such as procurement frameworks and incentive schemes to speed up deployment. 5. Crafting action plans for the long-term rollout of these business models and policies to ensure sustainable transnational exchange. Partners in this effort include Land Schleswig-Holstein, STRING, DFDS A/S, Kiel Institute for the World Economy, Hafen Hamburg Marketing, Pôlénergie, Province Drenthe, Lindholmen Science Park, Volvo Technology Corp., Europa-Universität Flensburg, and the University of Copenhagen.

The transition of heavy-duty transport requires more green solutions! In a recent op-ed for Altinget Energi og Forsyning, STRING’s Managing Director, Thomas Becker, highlights the critical need for a balanced approach to green fuels to drive a sustainable shift in heavy-duty road transport. While electrification holds potential, we need other alternatives. Hydrogen trucks offer an ideal solution for long-haul journeys but infrastructure to support them is still lacking. Political priorities that encourage both hydrogen and electric options are essential to shift effectively away from diesel. With countries around the world making significant green investments, Denmark has a chance to match this momentum and strengthen its leadership. The upcoming revision of the Danish Climate Act offers a timely opportunity to reinforce support for green fuels. These points align perfectly with our objectives at GREATER4H, as we work to support the development of hydrogen infrastructure for a sustainable and resilient heavy-duty transport sector across Northern Europe. Read the full op-ed in danish to learn more about what’s needed to achieve a green transition in heavy-duty transport. https://lnkd.in/dqCTgsA4 Altinget.dk #GREATER4H #Hydrogen #HDV #STRING H2ignite

Welcome to the official page of H2ignite – Igniting Green Hydrogen in the North Sea Region! We’re on a mission to tackle the key challenges in hydrogen deployment by establishing four cross-sector regional hydrogen ecosystems. Over the next three years, we’ll work together to tackle some of the most pressing obstacles in the hydrogen sector, accelerating the shift toward a greener, more sustainable future. Here’s how we’re doing it: 🔹 Establishing 4 cross-sector regional H2 innovation ecosystems 🔹 Developing and testing innovative business models for green hydrogen transport value chain focusing on heavy-duty vehicles and vessels 🔹 Fostering cross-sector dialogue, narrowing the gap between legislators and enterprises 🔹 Promoting policy innovations like procurement frameworks and incentive schemes to fast-track deployment 🔹 Creating actionable roadmaps to roll out proven business models and policies, ensuring lasting collaboration and innovation across borders. Powered by a strong consortium as part of the Interreg North Sea Programme including Schleswig-Holstein. Der echte Norden., STRING, Kiel Institute for the World Economy, DFDS, Europa-Universität Flensburg, Hafen Hamburg Marketing e.V., Pôlénergie, Provincie Drenthe, Lindholmen Science Park, Volvo Trucks, and University of Copenhagen (Københavns Universitet). H2ignite serves as a platform that connects each corner of the hydrogen value chain—industry leaders, policy-makers and academia —working together to drive a sustainable hydrogen transition. Follow us for updates, insights, and opportunities to engage.
