In October, the Bicol Region was significantly affected when Typhoon Kristine (international name: Trami) hit the Philippines.⛈️ In our nationwide survey on disaster preparedness & climate change perceptions in the Philippines this 2024, we found that... 📊 ⛈️🌊 Bicolanos are at high or extreme risk of exposure to disasters 💰📉 They generally experienced losing some finances and material investments due to disasters 🦺📈 Their disaster preparedness increased by 52%, but they're not significantly better prepared than the rest of the country 👥🤝 Local government and social networks are critical in preparing for disasters and facilitating recovery 🇵🇭🏛️ Only 1 in 4 Bicolanos views the national government's disaster preparedness and response efforts positively 🚨🧑🏫 Training and drills will strengthen the region's resilience and may build deeper trust in government response among Bicolano communities Interested to know more about disaster and climate resilience in the Philippines? The 2024 UN Human Rights campaign highlights how human rights serve as a pathway to solutions, acting as a preventative, protective, and transformative force for good, especially in times of crisis.
