2024 has been one of the hardest years in modern humanitarian history. Over 281 humanitarian workers lost their lives. For those still on the frontlines, the challenges are not just physical but deeply emotional and mental. Ahmed, a logistics coordinator in Ukraine, put it plainly: “It’s not the explosions that get to you… it’s what comes after.” At Headington Institute, we believe mental health is a cornerstone of effective humanitarian action. Aid workers shouldn’t have to choose between doing their jobs and protecting their own well-being. This #GivingTuesday, join us in building a system that supports those who support the world. Headington Institute Partnership Highlights! 🌟 Headington Institute 🤝 Future Communities Institute (FCI) We’re thrilled to announce our recent partnership with Future Communities Institute (FCI) to support the launch of their Los Angeles Unhoused Response Academy (“LAURA”). LAURA’s mission is to strengthen the Los Angeles County homeless workforce by creating pathways for new talent, supporting current staff to improve morale and reduce turnover, fostering professional growth, and advocating for better compensation. On October 4, Dr. Shelle Welty, one of our clinical associates, facilitated a half-day, in-person training focused on essential self-care practices for LAURA’s Fellows as they prepare to take on the challenges of serving Los Angeles’ unhoused population. Feedback was outstanding: Dr. Welty’s session was one of only six out of 12 to be rated “excellent” by every Fellow—the highest possible score—with many participants highlighting the value of the self-care focus. We’re excited to continue collaborating with FCI as they expand this impactful program. Thank you, Dr. Welty, for your dedication to equipping these future case managers with tools for resilience and self-care!
