I was honoured to speak on a panel "Building a Scalable and Sustainable Generative AI Startup" alongside Bryan Chua at BLOCK71 Saigon last week, whose insights as a seasoned entrepreneur were truly invaluable. The presentations and discussions were filled with enthusiasm about how technological innovation can transform healthcare service delivery—and it was exciting to see so many clinics and hospitals recognising the value of JarvisMD in improving doctors' clinical efficiency and reducing their administrative burdens. Our conversations reinforced what we at HealthBridge AI are most passionate about: empowering doctors with cutting-edge AI tools so they can spend less time on paperwork and more time on patient care. Exactly one month has passed since the Opening Weekend (28 to 29 September 2024) of the NUS Medicine Digital Accelerator Programme. The programme’s inaugural run admitted five start-ups, which embarked on 11 weeks of growth and development. As I look back on the past month, one thing has become very clear to me: the power of partnerships is transformative and cannot be underestimated. Start-ups in healthcare face unique challenges. In addition to the need for commercial viability and regulatory clearance, healthcare start-ups must achieve clinical validation and meet safety standards for the patients they strive to serve. All these requirements necessitate that entrepreneurs in the industry be equipped with a multitude of skills and receive mentorship in diverse ways. Thus, when the accelerator was launched, it was heartening to see how the community responded to the ethos of the initiative. Mentors from multiple fields gathered to nurture our digital health start-ups: 2Strands Biosciences, Health BETA, HealthBridge AI, Marymount Labs, and Tenang AI. These start-ups are dear to us because they join the force of entrepreneurs who harness technology to improve the lives of people. To quote DPM Heng Swee Keat’s opening speech at SWITCH 2024 yesterday: “To support deep tech innovators and startups, we need a strong ecosystem. Singapore seeks to work closely with our partners to strengthen our innovation ecosystem, so that we can serve as a Global-Asia Node for technology, innovation, and enterprise, and support innovators locally, regionally, and globally.” To the mentors and partners who have pushed ahead to make this support system a reality, we at the NUS Medicine Digital Advanced Technology Accelerator would like to say a big thank you.
