We’re thrilled to announce that MEDITECH has joined our Qualified Health Information Network (#QHIN) to support its recently announced US-based Traverse Exchange #interoperability network with real-time access to comprehensive patient data. Built on the same foundation as MEDITECH’s successful Traverse Exchange Canada solution, this new private network will enable participating MEDITECH customers to share health data seamlessly and securely with one another as well as with organizations using other vendor EHRs and exchange networks that comply with interoperability standards. “Our team at Health Gorilla has been looking forward to the opportunity to build on the work we’ve already accomplished with MEDITECH in Canada and support their new US network,” said Steve Yaskin, CEO and Co-founder of Health Gorilla. “MEDITECH has shown an unparalleled commitment to improving interoperability, and we’re proud to support them as they begin to participate in TEFCA through our QHIN and scale their Traverse Exchange network.”

Health Gorilla is a Fed-designated Qualified Health Information Network, the national health data platform.
About us
Health Gorilla provides secure interoperability solutions that enable healthcare organizations to seamlessly access the data they need to deliver high quality care. Leveraging our suite of FHIR-based APIs, master patient index, and data platform, our customers get instant connectivity to a broad clinical network to retrieve data for their products, extract insights that inform care delivery, and succeed in risk-based models. Our vision is to build a single national network that can retrieve and house all health data on any patient, ranging from medical records and labs to social determinants of health. By working with ONC to achieve TEFCA compliance and pursue status as a Qualified Health Information Network, we can scale the breadth of our data network nationally and deliver value across the healthcare ecosystem.

As the 2024 Co-Chair of the Privacy & Consent Workgroup, Steven Lane, MD, MPH had the honor of leading a session that underscored the increasing interest and collective dedication to tackling this important issue. The discussion underscored the importance of balancing seamless health data exchange with patient trust and choice. Privacy and consent are not just regulatory requirements—they are foundational principles for achieving true interoperability and ensuring long-term success of frameworks like #TEFCA. From granular consent to consent across networks, solutions must account for evolving patient expectations, diverse use cases, and the complex realities of healthcare ecosystems. During the session, we discussed actionable solutions that will help make TEFCA a trusted and transparent framework for all stakeholders. We must strike a balance between enabling nationwide health information exchange and ensuring that patients' privacy preferences and consent rights are respected, transparent, and effectively managed. In 2025, Dr. Lane will continue to co-chair this workgroup under the new name Privacy & Consent Community of Practice. A huge thank you to the engaged participants, fellow committee members, and everyone working to make privacy and consent a key component of future success. We look forward to continuing these critical conversations and driving replicable solutions in the coming year. Steven Lane, MD, MPH, Derek Plansky and Tom Visotsky attended the The Sequoia Project’s Annual Meeting 2024 and contributed to important discussions around the future of interoperability. As a 2024 Co-Chair of the Privacy & Consent committee (and tapped as a Co-Chair in 2025), Dr. Lane led a well-attended session that showcased interest in and commitment to this critical issue. As we explored the content at the meeting, there were various discussions and ideas that sparked our interest and here are a few highlights that stood out. -TEFCA Advancement: Micky Tripathi’s leadership continues to drive TEFCA forward, advancing national interoperability and strengthening the foundation for trusted health data exchange. Thank you, Micky! -Treatment Use Case Panel: The session outlined the complexity of defining treatment use cases. While participants acknowledged the intuitive nature of recognizing “treatment” when it occurs, the discussion revealed the need for clearer definitions and guardrails to ensure consistent interpretation and enforcement. This is critical as healthcare data exchange expands into more nuanced and complex scenarios. -Measuring Interoperability Progress: A collaborative session explored the transition from process-based metrics (such as the who, what, when, and how of data exchange) to outcome-based measures that align with the healthcare quintuple aim (improving health outcomes, reducing per capita costs, enhancing patient engagement, supporting care team satisfaction, and promoting equity). Shifting to outcome-based metrics ensures we measure not only the mechanics of exchange, but the real-world impact on care delivery and patient outcomes. -Building & Maintaining Trust: Discussions highlighted the evolving dispute management process as a critical component for preserving confidence among stakeholders. A standout example was the review of the recently resolved Epic-Particle dispute, which was successfully adjudicated through a structured process. As the 2024 Chair of the Carequality Steering Committee, Dr. Lane had the privilege of helping lead this effort and setting a precedent for future challenges. It’s clear that the journey toward seamless healthcare data exchange continues, and progress—while challenging—is happening. We are proud to be a leader in shaping the future of interoperability, ensuring data exchange drives measurable improvements in healthcare outcomes. MEDITECH is amplifying one of the many use cases for our nationwide data exchange. Interoperability continues to evolve beyond basic data exchange—it's about leveraging data to drive smarter, more efficient, and proactive care. MEDITECH and Health Gorilla are leading the charge in transforming this vision into reality. By integrating Health Gorilla's QHIN (Qualified Health Information Network) capabilities, MEDITECH's Traverse Exchange interoperability network is not just meeting TEFCA requirements—it’s setting a new benchmark for how healthcare organizations connect and collaborate across diverse EHR systems. This partnership empowers seamless, secure, and meaningful data exchange, enabling providers to access the right information at the right time. This is the future of healthcare: a connected ecosystem that breaks down silos and harnesses interoperability as a catalyst for innovation and improved patient outcomes. Health Gorilla reposted this
At #MEDITECHLive, MEDITECH Senior Director Mike Cordeiro outlined the goal to connect all MEDITECH #Expanse customers to Traverse Exchange, including the #QHIN connection via Health Gorilla, by the end of 2025. Sites on legacy versions of MEDITECH will have the opportunity to onboard by the end of 2026. This initiative ensures that MEDITECH and its customers are fully supportive and aligned with #TEFCA. In addition, MEDITECH has always connected our customers to national networks with Individual Access Services (IAS) turned ON, unless otherwise desired by the customer (this happens very rarely if ever), and our policy has not changed with Traverse Exchange. This, combined with the goal of getting all sites connected to QHINs, ensures that we are fully supportive of the goal of ensuring that all patients have access to their records using the app of their choice via TEFCA.
