Comunidad at Hearst Television (an employee resource group) recently hosted a series of fireside chats in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month. For the Hearst Health edition, WTAE Hearst Pittsburgh reporter Carlos Cristian Flores sat down with Chief Medical Officer Maurice Herbelin, MD, MBA, to discuss his cultural background and how it has influenced his life and career. Maurice spoke about his Bolivian roots and paid homage to his heritage by performing songs from several Latin American countries on the guitar. 🎶 Maurice shared how being raised with a strong sense of community influenced an approach to work that favors collaboration over competition and described the impact he has in his role leading clinical strategy at MHK: “There’s approximately 90 million lives that are being managed through our solutions so there’s a great social responsibility that comes with needing to ensure our systems are meeting the needs of the communities we serve.” Carlos and Maurice also discussed the structural disparities that exist in healthcare and potential solutions for closing the health equity gap. In closing, Maurice highlighted the value of compassion, sharing these words to live by: “Often as a society we judge people based on the burdens they carry in life rather than the courage with which they carry those burdens” (inspired by a quote from Gregory J. Boyle). Thank you to Maurice and Carlos for this delightful, informative episode and to all who attended! #HearstRISE #healthtech #healthIT

MCG Health (part of Hearst Health) colleagues recently visited DC to discuss how automation can be used to improve the efficiency of care, expediting processes such as #priorauthorization to help ensure patients receive the care they need in a timely manner. #healthIT #healthcareautomation
MCG VP of Government Markets, Donna Baker-Miller, and our HL7 Da Vinci Project Community Champion & #interoperability expert, Daniel Cawood, recently visited Capitol Hill in Washington D.C., to share valuable insights on prior auth #automation advancements. This type of industry input is well-timed for Congress as they consider the passage of the "Improving Seniors’ Timely Access to Care Act," bipartisan legislation that would streamline prior authorization requirements for #MedicareAdvantage plans.

“Talent is equally distributed but opportunity is not.” In a recent WE@HH session (WE at Hearst Health), Shashi Srikantan shared how Level Up Ventures invests in untapped talent to build a portfolio that directly reflects their mission to close the racial wealth gap—All of their portfolio companies are led by Black or Latino founders/CEOs and 50% are led by female CEOs. Leaders from two of these companies joined Hearst Health colleagues to share their entrepreneurial journeys and discuss how they're using #AI to deliver novel solutions: ▪ ConnectCareHero helps healthcare partners (such as senior living communities) keep older adults engaged through AI-powered software that provides culturally relevant content and programming, including health and fitness activities. ▪ Sunthetics is using AI and small data to create a "chemical GPS" that guides scientists by suggesting the right experiments to speed #innovation, with the potential to enable 32X faster product development while reducing waste and emissions up to 97%. Thanks to founders Osvaldo Montelongo, Tornu Ngwayah, Bob Lee III, Daniela Blanco and everyone who joined! We're happy to highlight this amazing work and look forward to supporting connections that help distribute opportunity more equally. ▶ Denielle G. deWynter and Cori Godeke founded WE@HH in 2020. It is a community for networking, support and development, ensuring we have a culture that inspires all to develop leadership abilities, seize growth opportunities and increase knowledge of Hearst Health and Hearst.
