The most effective public-private partnerships can improve the quality of life for underserved communities, boost economic growth, and support entrepreneurship. At #Alloy2024, High Alpha Innovation General Manager Lesa Mitchell moderated a panel on how 'P3s' can drive innovation that positively impacts society at large. 👉 Kumar Garg, President of Renaissance Philosophy, highlighted that many founders overlook foundations and philanthropies as sources for pre-seed funding and emphasized the importance of a clear, compelling pitch that addresses a social issue and outlines how the funding will drive their venture's growth. 👉 Ross DeVol, CEO of Heartland Forward, explained that strong economic development occurs when diverse job opportunities exist. This requires employers in communities nationwide to look beyond four-year degree requirements and invest in upskilling and reskilling workers. 👉 Rodney Bullard, CEO of The Same House, noted that addressing systemic poverty and corporate workforce needs together fosters economic mobility through education, employment, and entrepreneurship, with P3s driving living wages and stability in low-income communities. Swipe for additional takeaways from the insight-filled Alloy session. #PrivatePartnerships #Entrepreneurship #VentureBuilding

Our recent report, “Engineers, Computer Scientists And Data Scientists As Drivers Of Economic Growth” analyzes the potential positive economic impact of addressing the shortage of engineering, computer science and data science graduates at the University of Arkansas. The report found that doubling graduates and increasing research productivity could add an estimated $3.9 billion to the state’s economy and create 19,000 new jobs by 2038. President and CEO Ross DeVol sat down with host Roby Brock and fellow guest and First Orion Chairman Charles Morgan to contextualize the critical STEM graduate shortage in Arkansas, understand the potential for economic benefits and identify replicable strategies to foster growth. The third #BEAD domino has fallen in Arkansas. The National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) has officially approved Arkansas’ Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment (BEAD) Mapping Challenge Process, making Arkansas the 16th state to receive approval. This important milestone clears the way for The Arkansas State Broadband Office to begin the state’s BEAD application process. Round 1 will open on Tuesday, January 7. Interested internet service providers (ISPs) should complete the pre-registration process as soon as possible. For more information, please visit the Arkansas BEAD Webpage here: https://lnkd.in/eKbaFVAy To receive updates from The Arkansas State Broadband Office, please sign up here: https://lnkd.in/eehCUHx6 #NaturallyConnected #ARConnect #ARCommerce #arpx #arleg #TopTenState #LeaderInTheSouth #DigitalOpportunity #Broadband #BEAD

Earlier this week, the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) approved $54 million to support digital skills and opportunities for families and communities in Louisiana, Missouri, Oklahoma and Tennessee. Access to affordable high-speed internet is the number one economic issue of our time, and this is a key step toward ensuring reliable access for heartland residents. We are proud to work alongside heartland states in their efforts to maximize the impact of these critical funds. Recently, we partnered with ConnectLA to share best practices with other heartland states on making the best use of this historic federal investment into high-speed internet access. We are excited to share the success of our expansion of the telehealth training module in Oklahoma with our launch event earlier this week. This training module is a free resource for library staff to learn more about guiding local communities through telehealth services. Check out Jeff Elkins' coverage of the expansion in The Journal Record. https://lnkd.in/ebpiancc

Telehealth and digital connectivity are transforming how we approach health care access, and with 20% of Oklahomans lacking high-speed internet, libraries are stepping up as health and digital literacy hubs. Today, in concert with the Oklahoma Department of Libraries, we expanded our telehealth training module to Oklahoma, holding a press conference to announce the expansion and facilitating our first session! This training module is a free resource for library staff to learn more about guiding local communities through telehealth services. Thank you to our partners with the Public Library Association and to our funders at the Ford Foundation and the James M. Cox Foundation. Together, we can do our part to increase digital literacy and telehealth-related skills for a healthier and more prosperous heartland.

Dean Kim Needy joined Heartland Forward CEO Ross DeVol, Lexicon, Inc. CEO Patrick Schueck and Arkansas Secretary of Commerce Hugh McDonald for the release of a study showing how investment in engineering education could add $3.9 billion and 19,000 jobs to the state economy by 2038. Some key findings: * Even a small increase in the share of engineers and computer scientists in Arkansas’s labor force—from 2.3% to 3.4%—could boost GDP by 1.6 percentage points by 2038. * Each additional job in this sector would contribute approximately $203,000 to the state's economy. * A 50% increase in graduates and research output would generate an impressive $2.4 billion and 12,000 jobs. * Doubling the number of students graduating from the University of Arkansas College of Engineering would create a $3.9 billion economic impact, which is 15 times greater than the operational costs required to serve the increased number of students. We're grateful to collaborators Heartland Forward and we look forward to sharing more with our many stakeholders in the near future.
