I founded HerMD with Komel Caruso and Kathy Lai to truly revolutionize healthcare for women. The system had too many barriers for both patients and providers rendering costly delays, needless suffering, lack of evidence based, minimally invasive options. Women were waiting longer for pain medication, diagnosis, facing gaslighting and faced greater morbidity based on the gender of the rendering provider. Women live longer but in poorer health and despite outbumbering men in the healthcare workforce, they are being driven out due to pay gap, lack of mission driven work and greater demands at home. As female founders, the road is never easy. In healthcare, the barrriers are even tougher. The patients and the providers being placed an environment that encourages the practice of medicine is what HerMD is all about and when true change will truly occur. Thankful to our investors Amboy Street Ventures Carli Sapir Dominnique Karetsos Colleen Foster JAZZ Venture Partners for seeing the vision.
I was diagnosed with uterine cancer earlier this year. Fortunately, we caught it early and I am O-K! This post, however, is NOT about me. It’s about the critical need to support women’s health ventures. My journey started with HerMD, a female-founded, women’s healthcare company, and a compassionate nurse practitioner, Melissa Phillips, who took my concerns seriously—even though my symptoms were subtle and almost unrecognizable, yet my body was telling me different. Sunbal (Somi) Javaid founded HerMD for women who feel overlooked by the healthcare system. Frustrated with the rinse and repeat care at my regular practice, I tried HerMD's clinic in NJ, where my nurse recommended an ultrasound and biopsy. Though my insurance required I return to my regular practice (who then dismissed my symptoms and need for testing), HerMD’s attention led me to persist. Ultimately, my persistence resulted in my early diagnosis and treatment. Please support women’s health ventures by not only investing, but by being a patient or customer, participating in clinical trials, following on social and making them a part of your conversations. And most importantly listen to your body and don't be intimidated to advocate for your health! To the trailblazers at HerMD and beyond 👇 thank you for listening and for literally saving lives, including mine. If you have a women’s health story or know of an organization we should highlight, let’s share and raise awareness together. In the meantime, here's a couple for your reference. https://lnkd.in/evBpguCi Komel Caruso Christina Langdon - Success Coach Cate Luzio Maneesha Ghiya Nina Nashif Heidi Anderson Hupe Pearl Collings Priyanka Jain Carolyn Witte Greg Mayes Alison Greenberg #femtech #womenshealth #advocate #investinwomen

What an honor to talk with #SHECAN and Stephanie Ferrario and share my story on co-founding HerMD and the mission that drives us each and every day - giving women access to the care they DESERVE, ensuring we are heard and eradicating the shame and stigma in women's healthcare. I was also able to share my thoughts on the entrepreneurial journey. As a first-generation, Pakistani woman who grew up in Bedford, Ohio I never thought I would go on to co-found a women's healthcare company and raise millions of dollars to drive access to care across the country. I want all of our children to know - if you dream it, you can do it.
“Women deserve better! They deserve a space where they will be heard and listened to." Komel Caruso is the Co-Founder and Chief Operating Officer of HerMD, which has been revolutionising the future of women’s healthcare through an integrated, evidence-based model that delivers comprehensive women’s healthcare under one roof. HerMD's mission-driven approach to inspiring everyone to support women's health initiatives is imperative, and we should all advocate for change in our own communities. #shecan #shecanrolemodels #inspiration #menopause #womeninmenopause #futuredreams #shecanwomen #genderequity #womenleaders #femalefounded #herMD #womeninbusiness #womenentrepreneurs #womenshealth #mentor #womenmentor #womenrolemodels #rolemodels #hermd #komelcaruso
