Data - I have said it before but deciphering and interpreting data is about 50% of what a marketer does in their day to day role. At least that's what it feels like! Throwing content at the wall and seeing if it sticks isn't going to work forever - if at all. Data is how we make decisions about the content our audience wants to see. A lot of it IS done through trial and error, but studying the data and trends helps us make sure that the content we are sharing resonates with our communities. Now taking the data and making it connect with your audience, that's a skill set better known as "Data Storytelling" and I like to use this in a lot of my content. Data storytelling has seen a remarkable 233% growth. Stories are 22 times more memorable than facts alone. 73.67% of individuals use data storytelling to communicate sales data.   • If someone mentions they're a lawyer, it's common to follow up with, "What type of law do you practice?" Similarly, when I say I work in marketing, a frequent response is, "Oh, you're a marketer? What type of marketing services do you provide?" Indeed, those of us in the field understand that marketing involves wearing many hats, but we also have our specialties and preferences for the types of projects we like to tackle. For example, I run my own marketing company with a focus on Search Engine Optimization, Web Design, and Personal Branding. While I do offer support in social media and data analysis (by the way, about half of a marketer’s job involves deciphering and managing data), I have specific areas where I excel. Starting off with the not-so-great news: The reason you're not witnessing the growth you've been hoping for on social media is directly tied to how you're approaching content pillars. If you're aiming to make a splash this year, rethinking this should be our first thing we focus on fixing. But, here's where it gets sticky... When you hit up Google in search of what content pillars are all about, you end up wading through endless definitions centered around "categories," "themes," or "topics that resonate with your audience."
