Give the gift of support to families experiencing homelessness in 2025. Our family partnerships program provides coaching and skill-building resources including computer classes, English as a second language courses, career coaching, parenting classes, and other guided workshops. We also offer opportunities for connection between parents in our program to build community, form bonds, share parenting tips, and celebrate wins along their journey. It's not too late to give the gift of play to children experiencing homelessness. Last year, Horizons’ volunteers and staff provided 52,000 hours of play to children living in shelters. In more than 70 Playspaces throughout the state, volunteers are playing with children, building connections, and providing stability. In a recent meta-analysis, American Institutes for Research synthesized data from 145,000 children across 33 nations and found that by age 6, kids already see girls as worse than boys at computing and engineering. As girls age, their male-STEM bias increases, limiting future aspirations for fast-growing tech fields such as artificial intelligence. These findings reinforce Horizons' commitment to early STEM exposure to break down stereotypes and foster a more inclusive and innovative future. #AI #STEM #innovation
By age six, children already think that boys are better than girls at computing and engineering. Led by David Miller, Ph.D. and Courtney Tanenbaum, a new AIR research study engaged 145,000 children in 33 nations and synthesized over 40 years of research to understand children's gender stereotypes about #STEM and verbal abilities. The belief that boys are superior in certain #tech fields only gets stronger as kids age, which could potentially limit girls' aspirations in growing areas like #AI. The Parent Council is a group of representative parents who share their perspectives with Horizons staff so their voices can be incorporated into organizational decision-making. This month’s meeting was a winter celebration planned jointly by staff and members of our Parent Council leadership team. Parents connected with one another over delicious food, cheers’ing mocktails, and making festive crafts including ornament decorating, snowglobe making, and picture frame painting. Parents made gifts for their loved ones and took home warm blankets for the children made by Holidays with Horizons volunteers. A raffle was held where a lucky parent took home a brand-new Chromebook for the holidays! The trilingual event was live translated in both Haitian Creole and Spanish and culminated in a celebratory happy new years cheers in all three languages.

However, a new report from the Massachusetts Taxpayers Foundation cautions that challenges in recruiting and retaining workers could jeopardize efforts to increase access to #affordablechildcare. Find out more about how Massachusetts can retain recent progress and expand access to affordable, high-quality #ECE in the full report:

Today was Horizons’ annual staff Winter Holiday Celebration! Our staff came together to celebrate all the winter holidays, eating great food, making cards and crafts while spreading holiday cheer. Leadership had the opportunity to express their appreciation and gratitude for the team’s commitment throughout the year. Children surprised staff with a holiday parade inviting them to a cookies and cocoa party, and the day was filled with words of appreciation and warm smiles all around.
