Congratulations to our co-chair for 2024 Houston Energy and Climate Week — Juliana Garaizar for her three nominations. She took home the Investor of the Year award at the Houston Innovation Awards hosted by InnovationMap last week. Juliana invested and double downed on Houston four years ago to establish Greentown Labs Houston — then launched Energy Tech Nexus while supporting startups and helping our city launch the first ever Houston Energy and Climate Week. Congratulations Juliana for all you do for HOU.

🌲Sustainable Design for Houston Energy and Climate Week🌲 As part of Houston Energy and Climate Week by Design Thinking and Innovation, the focus was on designing for a #sustainable future, a topic that felt not only relevant but essential in today’s world. Attending this event was an inspiring and enlightening #experience, blending the urgency of climate action with the power of thoughtful design. Special recognition goes out to the leaders who made this collaboration possible, including Danyal Mahmud, Margaret Passe, Pragya Srivastava, Zachary Reyna, and Quinn Uyen Dao. Your commitment to driving sustainable #change was clear throughout the evening. 🌟⭐️What stood out most were the engaging presentations that connected human-centered design with sustainability. The idea that we need to shift from “Human-Centric” to “Planet-Centric” thinking resonated deeply, emphasizing that our design approaches must prioritize both #people and the #planet equally⭐️🌟 It was great to see the collaboration between Design Thinking and Innovation and local organizations like Side Project Society, IxDA Houston, UXPA International Houston, UXCoogs, and more come to life, showcasing the strength and innovation our community can bring when we unite around a common cause. I also want to acknowledge the tireless efforts of the coordinators—Denny Kruep, Cristelle Mathews, Kanika Sachdeva, Melissa Yarbrough, and KP Stone. Your work behind the scenes ensured that the event ran smoothly, fostering a space where ideas could be shared #freely. The event space at Improving was perfect for fostering a collaborative and engaging atmosphere, and I truly appreciate their generosity as a sponsor. Their support, along with Aquent underscored the importance of community involvement in making events like this a #reality. This event was a vivid reminder that #sustainability starts with thoughtful design, and I left feeling both challenged and motivated to incorporate more of these principles into my own work. It’s clear that events like this are not only beneficial but necessary for our community to push the boundaries of what’s possible in creating a sustainable future🤎

Over the past few days, Hurricane Helene has ripped through five states, leaving many stranded, roads closed, and millions without power. In the Asheville, North Carolina, area, many still needed access to information as the mountain terrain was hit hard by washing out cities, homes, and roads. Allies in Energy has put together an Amazon Wish List of critical supplies for the region. All supplies will be donated and delivered to Hearts with Hands Disaster Relief in Asheville at their warehouse. Thank you for your support for those in need on the ground in North Carolina: https://lnkd.in/gRcFvHD6 Or you may donate financially to: https://lnkd.in/e57q2zzZ
