A design principle I love here at HowGood: Disrupting carbon tunnel vision. → What’s HowGood? We created HowGood 18 years ago to illuminate the social and environmental impacts of the food system. → What’s HowGood approach? HowGood created a software to helps foodies instantly see the impact of any food ingredient not just for carbon, but also for labor risk, water use, soil health, biodiversity, animal welfare and deforestation. In short: no more carbon tunnel vision! → What does this mean in practice? Just the other day one of our partners noticed that sourcing a raw material from a different country would both reduce costs and carbon emissions, but also worsen Human Rights risks faced by farm workers. Having the data to show these trade-offs and synergies helps make more holistic decisions. Credits to Alexander Gillett and Arthur Gillett – the two brothers, co-founders and now friends who have been changing the game!

"Our company calculates the #carbon footprint or the #water footprint of any product that’s out there in the market. That used to be a time-intensive, expertise-intensive process that would take 6-9 months to produce a single #LCA for a single product. We can now do that in a matter of 2-3 minutes in our platform." Check out The Spoon's session at CES to hear Ethan Soloviev, Chief Innovation Officer at HowGood, discuss the three levels of #artificialintelligence and what it will take to get to #transformation with Taous LASSEL at Danone, Jasmin Hume, PhD at Shiru, and Raj Singh at GPT Food Cam. https://lnkd.in/emJSqt9Q #CES2025 #foodtech

Carbon has been the go-to metric for measuring a company’s environmental footprint for years. However, approaching sustainability from a narrow focus can lead to unintended consequences, such as overlooking the social and ecological impacts of food production. Furthermore, with upcoming regulations coming into play; companies need to start future-proofing their supply chains to comply with laws around deforestation, biodiversity, and water usage. In a webinar HowGood hosted with the Paulig Group and Ingredion Incorporated, we talk about how the future of sustainability requires a shift toward more comprehensive outlook on sustainability, and how companies who adopt a wider range of metrics in their sustainability strategies will see success from both a regulatory and ROI perspective. HowGood's sustainability intelligence platform (Latis) is leading the way, helping companies like Paulig and Ingredion integrate sustainability into their operations in meaningful ways. The future of sustainability requires a holistic approach that goes beyond carbon footprinting to include a broader range of environmental and social metrics. By automating these processes, it’s possible to not only reduce costs but to also ensure you're meeting the growing demands of consumers, investors, and regulators.

🎉HowGood just launched a new feature that changes everything: Accounting for the work of farmers in product environmental footprints! → Why does this matter so much? Most product environmental footprints are calculated using global averages for agricultural crops. The problem with this approach is that the footprint of the SAME crop can be vastly different depending on where and how a farmer grows it. By capturing agricultural practice data we can now help ensure the work of farmers is acknowledged and quantified! → How did we do it? We partnered with our dear friends at the Cool Farm Alliance and set-up a seamless API connector that offers the best of the Cool Farm Platform and HowGood's Platform in one single interface. → Want to check it out? Take a look at the short video below where I walk you through a product environmental footprint for a strawberry cheesecake that considers the specific agricultural program used to grow those strawberries. Thank you to our friends at Cool Farm and to all HowGood engineers and researchers that spent countless hours bringing this tech to life. Farming and farmers make a huge difference, and now we can show it.
