🎁 As we wrap-up and put a bow on the 36th year of HumanKind’s Lynchburg Turkey Trot, I am so glad that participants get to experience a festive event that seems effortless and seamless! 🦃 🏃♀️ 🏃♂️ However, what attendees and participants don’t see are the behind-the-scenes people, and months worth of work that it takes to host a citywide event for over 4,000 people! Here are the take-aways: 🕑 Preparation is key! Hours are spent meeting and coordinating with sponsors, vendors, partners, and volunteers. Walk-throughs are essential. 📋 Plan for hiccups! Anticipate them and have mitigation plans in place. Always work ahead of schedule so you have time to address them when they arise. 🤜🤛 Your team is EVERYTHING! Events big and small are the result of a team. Have the right people in the right seats on the bus, and make sure everyone knows where that bus is going. Thank you to ALL of the people who were on this ride with us, for your behind-the-scenes efforts and long hours that made this event a success! (Below are a few of those behind-the-scenes moments, or pics you won’t see in promotional places!)

  • Beyond Expectations: A Testament to Community Support During the challenging times of the COVID pandemic, Natasha welcomed her daughter Emma, who was diagnosed with Down Syndrome. Recognizing the need for support, Natasha turned to HumanKind's Early Head Start (EHS) and discovered a network of dedicated advocates and vital resources. Despite initial restrictions on in-person care, EHS ensured that Natasha and Emma received essential services through virtual support. This included healthcare, parent training, and community connections that empowered Natasha to take on a leadership role as co-chairperson of the EHS Parent Policy Council. “Having this level of stability to support my daughter and my family is what makes life possible right now,” Natasha expressed. Since starting full-time at the EHS center, Emma has made remarkable progress—learning to eat independently and taking her first steps ahead of schedule. Your support has been instrumental in transforming Natasha and Emma’s lives. Thank you for being a part of this incredible journey! #CommunityImpact #SupportSystems #Empowerment #HumanKindEHS

  • We need your helping hands and generous heart to tackle a few important projects this season. Your support makes a real difference, and we’d love to have you join us. Take a look at the opportunities below and let me know if you’re available—we’ll coordinate a time that works for both you and the project supervisor! Throughout December: Do you have great penmanship? We need assistance writing thank-you cards for our generous donors. It’s a wonderful way to share gratitude and connect with the heart of our mission.   December or Early January: We need help preparing documents for shredding in January by removing paper clips, staples, etc. Please note that these documents contain confidential information, so attention to detail is key.
