  • 🚄 Ready to know more about magnetic levitation in hyperloop? 🚄 Join us for the upcoming Hyperloop Seminar session next 25th Monday, November from 18:00 to 19:00 CET, featuring the talk of an expert on levitation technologies for ultra-high speed vehicles.  🎙️ Speaker 1: Dr.-Ing. Florian Dignath,  Senior System Engineer at thyssenkrupp Transrapid. Topic: "Mind the gap - Thoughts on controlling the magnetic levitation" The Transrapid was Germany’s pioneering maglev train, designed for ultra-high-speed travel up to 500 km/h, utilizing electromagnetic suspension for frictionless operation. Developed by ThyssenKrupp and Siemens, the system was a testament to cutting-edge engineering. Dr.-Ing. Florian Dignath played a pivotal role in developing the levitation system. Drawing from his extensive experience, he offers insights into the magnet control system, including the control tasks, design principles, and critical control scenarios essential for the system's operation. Despite decades of development and successful testing at the Emsland facility, plans for domestic routes like Hamburg–Berlin were scrapped due to high costs and limited public support.   • 🚄 Ready to know more about the cooling and heat management of hyperloop vehicles and its technologies? 🚄 Join us for the upcoming Hyperloop Seminar session next 18th Monday, November from 18:00 to 19:00 CET, featuring the talk of two experts on hyperloop cooling systems for their respective team vehicles. 🎙️ Speaker 1: Manuel Kälin,  Former Technical Team Member at the Swissloop team from ETH Zürich Topic: "Assessment of Heat Management Strategies for Hyperloop Pods" This presentation tackles the challenge of maintaining stable temperatures in a hyperloop pod, focusing on how heat is effectively dissipated to the surrounding tube and air. We'll explore if the heat transferred through radiation and convection is enough to keep the pod at a consistent temperature, even at high speeds. By examining the impact of various environmental and design factors, we dive into the science of thermal management to see what it takes to create a comfortable, efficient ride within the hyperloop. 🎙️ Speaker 2: Gert Spek, Lead Engineer Tractive at Hardt Hyperloop Topic: "Cooling system for a transportation vehicle arranged to be transported in a low-pressure environment" Thermal management for hyperloop transportation is a challenging topic. Significant amounts of waste heat from onboard systems as well as the passengers need to be rejected to avoid overheating of the systems and cabin. However, the low-pressure environment prohibits efficient convective heat-transfer, requiring the need to look at other solutions. This talk will present how proven solutions from the space and processed-food industry can be combined to realize a thermal management system suited for hyperloop transportation. Moreover, the complexity of the technology involved creates rejection when not understood properly, posing an obstacle to the diffusion process. Therefore, the objective of this research is to guide the public discourse around hyperloop to its best, avoiding the creation of misunderstandings due to incorrect information spreading. To achieve solid guidelines, statistical and deep learning techniques have been applied to the extraction of hyperloop-related arguments and their analysis and comparison. 🎙️ Speaker 2: Eunice Pu, Aaron Chen & Thomas Zamin, Socio Economic Researchers at Queen's Hyperloop Design Team  Topic: "A Multi-Criteria Approach for Hyperloop Route Implementation in Canada and Beyond" Hyperloop systems are emerging as sustainable transit solutions. Effective hyperloop design must account for accessibility, affordability, and socioeconomic benefits to attract ridership and ensure success. A framework was developed to assess route feasibility by analyzing consumer behaviors, geographic challenges, and infrastructure constraints between city pairs. Using geospatial data and Dijkstra’s algorithm, this customizable framework identifies optimal routes based on efficiency and cost, tailored to specific socioeconomic, financial, and geographic factors. A case study of the Calgary-Edmonton route by TransPod validates the model. This presentation will describe a methodology to estimate the performance of LIMs, a comprehensive analysis of end effect in LIMs and its relationship with the magnetic Reynolds number (Re_m). The relationship between end effect, Re_m and the type of electrodynamic regime (resistance limited or inductance limited induced currents) will be analyzed in detail.   • 🚄 Ready for another deep-dive into the cutting-edge world of Hyperloop for this semester? 🚄 Join us for the upcoming Hyperloop Seminar session next Monday 28th of October from 18:00 to 19:00 CET, featuring the talk of two experts on Life Cycle Assessment for sustainable infrastructures as part of a Swiss National Science Foundation SNSF research project in collaboration with Delft University of Technology, Eindhoven University of Technology and EuroTube. 🎙️ Speaker 1: Ishaan Kaushal,  Postdoctoral Fellow at the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano Topic: "A Comparative Life Cycle Assessment on Smart Mobile Factories: Enabling Sustainable Construction for Hyperloop Projects" This talk will present the development of Smart Mobile Factories (SMF) for sustainable Hyperloop infrastructure construction. It will outline how project requirements were translated into feasible SMF designs and showcase the environmental impact assessment of three selected SMF designs—concrete, wood, and pneumatic—using Life Cycle Assessment (LCA). The comparison reveals that the pneumatic-based SMF has the least environmental impact and is then selected for further developments in the project as well as by Eurotube for its Demo Factory. The talk emphasizes the importance of not only designing a sustainable transport solution but also realizing the project sustainably, focusing on minimizing environmental impacts through mobile manufacturing. 🎙️ Speaker 2: Jianxiang Ma, PhD student at ETH Zürich Topic: "Environmental and Economic Optimization of Relocation Plans for Mobile Prefabrication Factories in Infrastructure Projects" The presented study analyzes the environmental and economic impacts of mobile prefabrication factories in complex linear infrastructure projects, focusing on the relocation problem. We developed a mathematical model integrating Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and Geographic Information System (GIS) to optimize factory relocation within a mobile supply network, aiming to reduce emissions and costs. Applied to the EuroTube construction case study from Zurich to Geneva, the model demonstrated that relocating the factory four times reduced emissions by 57% and costs by 45%. Sensitivity analyses confirmed its adaptability, recommending relocation every 50 to 60 km to optimize logistics and minimize disruptions.
