We’re excited to share our 2023 Year in Review Report, featuring a year’s worth of data from caregivers using the ianacare platform.   This report offers a unique, data-driven view into how caregivers truly ask for, receive, and leverage support.   As more care delivery organizations recognize the critical role of caregiver support, especially within the CMS GUIDE model, this data offers crucial insights into successful engagement models. #caregiversupport #engagement https://lnkd.in/eX5MBCdY

November is National Family Caregivers Month! What we’ve learned after serving 47,000 active families is that effective support is so deeply linked to policy. And no ONE company or organization can make this systemic change alone. So grateful for our close friendships at AARP who are at the forefront of these policy changes. They tirelessly fight to make our voices heard, so it’s embedded in the support that is required. At ianacare, we stay super close to these policy changes and implementation way before it becomes public, so we can help shape and make it real for our caregivers. Collaborating, partnering, and lifting each other up will make these changes possible - from policy to implementation to end user experience and real day-to-day impact. I’m feeling hopeful and even more determined after our trip to DC. Let’s do this! #IAmNotAloneCare #caregiving With Steven Lee Rita Choula

A new study from Otsuka Pharmaceutical Companies (U.S.) found that family caregivers of loved ones with Alzheimer's or dementia would earn an average salary of $114,000 if paid for their work. 💸   This makes clear the immense financial burden unpaid family caregivers face. Innovations are popping up in an attempt to address this burden, such as the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services GUIDE model, but there is more to do to fully address the financial toxicity and emotional impact caregivers experience in the US today. What drives behavior in healthcare? Payment models. It was a privilege to be on this panel this week with Tonya Saffer (Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services), Laura Makaroff (American Cancer Society), and Marian Grant, DNP, ACNP-BC, ACHPN, FPCN, FAAN (The Coalition to Transform Advanced Care (C-TAC) to discuss innovative payment models to support family caregivers. Each of them is truly a mover and shaker shaping policy that make tangible impact to family caregivers. • Tonya Saffer's team at CMMI rolled out the transformative GUIDE model to support families of patients with dementia. For the first time, family caregivers are truly integrated into a comprehensive payment model. We learned that patients with dementia make up almost 20% of Medicare costs, and the model recognizes the role family caregivers play in driving quality of care for these patients and in reducing those costs while improving quality of life. It’s a win/win/win. No wonder interest in the program surpassed all expectations! • Laura Makaroff's team at ACS has developed a wealth of resources at cancer.org and on the ACS CARES app. They have advocated for comprehensive care models inclusive of family caregivers as well as to raise awareness of the issue of medical debt for survivors and families. • Marian Grant, DNP, ACNP-BC, ACHPN, FPCN, FAAN and the team at C-TAC have been working with CMS to enhance the billing codes for Caregiver Training and Support (CTS). It is due in no small part to their efforts and feedback that the CTS codes now include caregiver assessments, expanded training scope including for wound care, and telehealth access. We are truly grateful for their critical work. We shared insights from ianacare's experience supporting family caregivers over the last 6 years, including the importance of providing an infrastructure for appointments, respite, navigation, and training. We dove deep into the numbers, and showed how we’ve eased caregiver burden and improved quality of life for patients and caregivers. We are thrilled that the GUIDE care and payment model will drive broader expansion of these results. It’s inspiring to be with these changemakers and to see policy and care delivery coming together to truly improve care. With Jessica Nam Kim

📣 Earlier this week, we were honored to sponsor and speak at The Coalition to Transform Advanced Care (C-TAC)'s 2024 Summit. Our very own Steven Lee joined a panel focused on family caregivers and Medicare payment models, sharing how our solution is built to support the CMS GUIDE model. It was amazing to be in the presence of change-makers and experts coming together to improve the quality of life for those living with serious illness and their caregivers. We gathered countless insights and came away more inspired than ever to bring our mission to life for patients and caregivers everywhere.

The "sandwich generation" is feeling the squeeze more than ever. This should be a bipartisan issue. A proposal we are excited to see this morning comes from the Harris Waltz campaign to expand Medicare benefits to include home care for seniors. This is a critical step in easing the burden on caregivers who are caught between raising children and caring for aging parents. Today, without this, far too many seniors are having to engineer their bankruptcy to qualify for long-term care benefits under Medicaid. This should not be how it works in America. By offering support for home health aides and other services, this plan would help millions of Americans provide care at home, reducing the financial and emotional strain. With over 105 million Americans providing unpaid care, this is the kind of policy we need to lift the load off caregivers' shoulders and allow aging loved ones to stay in the comfort of home. #SandwichGeneration #Medicare #HospitalAtHome https://lnkd.in/e-5-uVfn

It wasn't a typical ianacare meeting this past Monday ... We had the privilege of hearing from Dr. Kai-Fong Lee (Yes! Our CEO's Steven Lee's wonderful Dad), who shared some incredible insights from his post-retirement adventures and reflections. His wisdom resonated deeply with our ianacare team as we work to support caregivers in finding balance and support in retirement. (Pictured 2nd row, 3rd from the left - can you tell we were overjoyed to learn from him?!) Here are the top 3 lessons he shared with us: 1️⃣ Embrace the Journey: Whether crossing the Pacific at 17 or exploring the wilderness of Canada, Dr. Lee reminded us that the joy of travel—like life—lies in appreciating every moment and experience along the way. 2️⃣ Lifelong Learning: From translating ancient verses to leveraging modern AI tools (yes, even ChatGPT!), Dr. Lee emphasized the importance of constantly expanding our horizons and staying curious, particularly when it comes to music and reading. 3️⃣ Wisdom in Reflection: Drawing from his favorite quotes, Dr. Lee left us with profound reminders: happiness can be found in simple moments, courage is about both action and listening, and life is an ongoing exploration. "Life would be infinitely happier, if we could only be born at the age of 80 and gradually approach 18." - Mark Twain We're incredibly grateful for Dr. Lee's time and inspiration to remind us what is important in life. His perspective reminds us that even in retirement, there's so much to explore, learn, and look forward to. And that's why we want to make sure those that need care find the support they need - so retirement can be a place and space for continued joy. #TeamCulture #LifelongLearning #Retirement
