Winter is coming! ❄ Autumn is definitely here 🍂 , and it’s now time to start thinking about icing again! ❄ 📉 IEA Task 54 is collecting icing events in a public database to be used for further research, comparison of datasets with different icing climates as well as indications of IPS and Ice detectors for wind turbine usage. 📊 From this dataset, we see an example of an icing event for a wind turbine in Germany in January 2022 with an anti-icing system and two different types of ice detection systems. The icing event shows a quite significant drop in temperature (top panel, brown curve) on January 26 at 00UTC, with Relative Humidity close to 100% (top panel, green curve). Some blade-based ice detectors provide early indication of ice (bottom panel, cyan patches), before a decrease in production is detected using power curve deviation (second-to-top panel, blue area) and subsequent blade heating is started (red patches). The Combitech Ice Monitor (third-to-top panel) has slower reaction and shows a clear ice growth starting at 12UTC. The turbine is back in operation on January 27 around 12UTC when the temperature increases again, while some blade-based ice detectors still show signs of icing. A sudden drop in ice mass is recorded by the Combitech sensor around 20UTC, corresponding to ice shedding. If you are interested to share your icing event(s) with the possibility to get your data analysed, please check in this link to get more information on how to contribute! 👉 https://lnkd.in/dmVSPe-n

We need YOUR contribution to the Task 54’s public icing event database! ❄ The Task 54 of the IEA Wind TCP is an international working group addressing “Cold Climate Wind Power”. In order to increase general awareness about icing of wind turbines, the Task54 has launched a public database collecting and comparing data from icing events all around the world, in the form of time series or pictures. The database is still in its growing phase and gets more comprehensive with every dataset contributed. Hence, the working group asks YOU to contribute if you have access to respective data. The database is focused on meteorological data significant to icing and, if necessary, can be contributed anonymously with respect to exact location and other details. For information on how and what to share, find the call for contributions under the link below: 👉 https://lnkd.in/dmVSPe-n #Task54 #ColdClimate #Icing #PerformanceEnvelope #IPS
