The IIT Bombay-Ohio State Frontier Center

We're excited to share that the IIT Bombay-Ohio State Frontier Center has awarded funding to four international research teams. These grants foster innovative collaborations that elevate scientific and engineering research beyond the capabilities of a single institution. The Frontier Center, a collaboration between The Ohio State University's Institute for Materials and Manufacturing Research (IMR) and the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, builds on both institutions’ research strengths in renewable energy, electronics, photonics, materials, and quantum information technology. https://go.osu.edu/CrNb

Growing up in a Cleveland suburb, Nathan Gajowski had a knack for tinkering with gadgets and dreaming up new inventions - he didn't know his engineering journey would bring him to India. He enrolled at The Ohio State University and found exciting classes and hands-on projects in The Ohio State University College of Engineering. Gajowski joined Buckeye Current, an engineering project team that builds and races electric motorcycles and he landed an internship with the Harley-Davidson Motor Company as an electric vehicle test engineer. But Gajowski wanted to be on the cutting edge, pushing boundaries and exploring new ideas. He discovered the Krishna Infrared Detector K.I.N.D. Laboratory and under the guidance of Sanjay Krishna, Gajowski dove into the world of semiconductor technology and loved it. His engineering journey brought Gajowski to India via a grant from The IIT Bombay-Ohio State Frontier Center. He worked with Bhaskaran Muralidharan, an expert in the field of advanced semiconductor transport modeling at the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay. “My time working under Professor Muralidharan taught me about modeling these processes and gave me new tools and understanding of the physics behind the semiconductor devices I hope to experimentally demonstrate,” notes Gajowski. “I believe this exchange experience has made me a more well-rounded person, more grateful, and happier in life overall. I was even able to visit the Ohio State India Gateway and share my Buckeye experience with admitted undergraduate students and their parents. It felt great to share my story, answer their questions, and give back to the university in a small way,” describes Gajowski. https://lnkd.in/gJ9_g2K5
