We're so excited to announce our 2024 class of Justice Fellows, our largest class of Fellows ever! Over 130 dedicated Justice Fellows will join the fight for immigrant justice in more than 30 states. These exceptional individuals will provide vital legal assistance to immigrants, improving the immigration bar and holding courts and agencies accountable. "With this record-breaking class, we're not just mitigating a crisis, we're building a movement of the next generation of immigration lawyers and advocates," said Jojo Annobil, IJC's Chief Executive Officer. #IJCFellows #immigrationnews #immigrationlaw

Creating the next generation of immigration lawyers and advocates.
About us
Immigrant Justice Corps (IJC) is the country’s first fellowship program wholly dedicated to meeting the need for high-quality legal assistance for immigrants seeking citizenship and fighting deportation. Inspired by Chief Judge Robert Katzmann of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, IJC brings together the country’s most talented advocates, connects them to New York City’s best legal and community institutions, leverages the latest technologies, and fosters a culture of creative thinking that will produce new strategies to reduce the justice gap for immigrant families, ensuring that immigration status is no longer a barrier to social and economic opportunity.

IJC’s free counsel has delivered a 93% success rate in completed cases, in contrast to a 14.5% success rate when an immigrant is without counsel, and a 7.9% success rate when an immigrant is detained. Thank you to all our Fellows for providing support to immigrants in need! #IJCFellows

So grateful for all our IJC alumni ❤️
Feeling honored and grateful to have accepted the Robert A. Katzmann Distinguished Fellows Award on behalf of the inaugural class of fellows during the Immigrant Justice Corps 10th Anniversary Celebration. Reuniting with some of the fiercest and brightest advocates for immigrant justice, including my fellow Bronx Defenders Nhu-Y Ngo and Katherine Kim, has left me re-energized for the fight ahead. I’m also deeply inspired by the vision and dedication of the late Judge Katzmann and all the IJC champions, including the members of the Katzmann study group, IJC board members, and IJC staff who have worked tirelessly over the years to expand access to representation to immigrants across the country. A special highlight of the evening was receiving the award from the brilliant Alina Das, whose work and leadership continue to inspire us all. Thank you to everyone who made this event such a tremendous success. This moment is not just a celebration but a powerful reminder of the strength of our community. Onward!

State lawmakers passed the Sanctuary Promise Act in 2021, modernizing and strengthening the original 1987 sanctuary law. The new legislation also laid out what information cannot be shared between public entities and federal immigration officials, and prevents state law enforcement from jailing people for immigration agencies. The updated sanctuary law also reinforced that state and local police in Oregon are prohibited from asking a person’s immigration status. #immigrationnews

Fordham Law graduates Niko Dimitrakopoulos, J.D. '24, Thanina Haddadi, LL.M. '24, and Daniel Ochea, LL.M. '22 have been named to the largest class of fellows at Immigrant Justice Corps (IJC). Dimitrakopoulos, Haddadi, and Ochea will work as staff attorneys at Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Newark, Prisoners' Legal Services of New York in Albany, and Safe Horizon, respectively, for the next two years. Said Dimitrakopoulos, "This fellowship has given me the opportunity to represent immigrants in need of legal support at a time when they are facing significant challenges. I look forward to making a positive and meaningful impact in the lives of those I serve." Said Haddadi, "I am one of the 2024 Feerick Center for Social Justice's Defender of the Dream Award recipients. I thank Fordham Law School and the Feerick Center for Social Justice for their endless support during my journey that landed me as an IJC Fellow at Prisoners' Legal Services of New York." Said Ochea, "Following an incredible trip to Montgomery, AL, where we visited museums dedicated to the history of slavery in the U.S. and human rights, we participated in three weeks of training sessions focused on immigration law with IJC. Now, I'm working at Safe Horizon as an IJC Fellow, advocating for immigrant survivors of crime, torture, or abuse." Read more: https://lnkd.in/eAjJkKVR

Last night, we celebrated IJC's 10th Anniversary by bringing together those who have supported us from the beginning and those who have joined the fight in more recent years. We honored our founder, the late Judge Robert A. Katzmann, our early supporters and the 2014 Class of Fellows. The night was a huge success, and together our supporters helped us raise over $850k! We are deeply grateful for all who gathered together. #IJC10
