The lineup for the 2025 Sundance Film Festival was announced, and one of the many films we're eager about is on the list: "Free Leonard Peltier". This film follows how the new generation of Native activists are trying to free one of the last surviving leaders of the American Indian Movement, Leonard Peltier, who was first imprisoned 50 years ago. Among the award-winning, fully Indigenous film crew are Emmy winning director Jesse Short Bull, and Emmy nominee Jhane Myers. In 2024, Myers attended the Indigenous Business Conference hosted by the Indigenous Business Group, and also signed on as a Producer for "The 7th" film, a film which our CEO Rob Pero is also a Co-Executive Producer on. It's good to see Indigenous representation both on and off screen, and we continue to look forward to what Jhane Myers, Jesse Short Bull, and other Native and Indigenous creators are able to bring to the big screen. Celebrating Indigenous Peoples' Day in Milwaukee with the Hoan Bridge lighting ceremony. The colors black, red, yellow, and white represent the traditional medicine wheel. The ceremony was organized by Indigenous Business Group. Attendees, including the Potawatomi Fire Nation drum, Wisconsin tribal reps, and community members, gathered to commemorate the trials of our past and the perseverance of our communities. Milwaukee is on the ancestral homelands of the Potawatomi, Ho-Chunk, Menominee, and Ojibwe peoples. The word "Milwaukee" comes from the Ojibewmowin word "minowakiing", meaning "good earth". Wisconsin is home to 50,000 Indigenous people and 11 federally recognized tribes.
