In corsa c'erano gli ingegneri delle migliori università del mondo, da Berkeley al CalTech, dal Mit al Kaist coreano e tanti altri istituti carichi di talenti e finanziamenti. Ma a vincere la gara tra auto a guida completamente autonoma, nei giorni scorsi sul circuito di Las Vegas, è stato il team automobilistico 'Unimore Racing', coordinato da Marko Bertogna, professore di Informatica all'Università degli Studi di Modena e Reggio Emilia. In pratica siamo stati i migliori a programmare gli algoritmi per far sfrecciare una Dallara, con sorpassi a 300 all'ora, gestione degli imprevisti e tattiche da Formula 1, senza nessuno a bordo. Soddisfazione per il nostro Paese? Certo (tra l'altro in ottimo piazzamento anche la squadra del Politecnico di Milano). Ma lo sconforto arriva dal fatto che, malgrado il successo in pista, nessuno ha ancora bussato all'ateneo emiliano per offrirsi come sponsor alle prossime competizioni (se qualcuno è disponibile, non esitate). Per la rubrica Sportello Italia su Radio1 Rai ho sentito il professor Bertogna che spiega le applicazioni della sua ricerca in ambiti come l'agricoltura, la logistica o la sicurezza dei veicoli in generale. Ma ha parlato anche di previsioni sulle vetture a guida autonoma nelle nostre città e degli altri progetti in cantiere.
