  • For the past few months, in partnership with Learn Politics NG, we have been hard at work on an ambitious Infrastructure Policy Project—a tool that makes infrastructure policy research and access simpler and more efficient. Now proudly named SeraNova, embodying its purpose and vision to empower individuals, communities, and stakeholders with the knowledge they need to shape Africa’s infrastructure future. The name combines two powerful ideas: Sera, meaning “policy” in Swahili, and Nova, symbolising “novel” or “innovation.” Together, they represent our commitment to reshaping the way infrastructure-related policies are accessed and understood across Africa. SeraNova is Africa’s pioneer digital repository for infrastructure policies across the continent. It is designed to bridge the infrastructure knowledge gap while also offering a streamlined search tool and unlocking the latest infrastructure policies across 28 African countries. Stay tuned as we launch the future of infrastructure policy research! #SeraNova #ForAfrica #InfrastructureforAll #SDG9inAfrica

Projects must generate enough revenue to repay debts and attract investors. In his session at our last workshop, Mayowa Abiru shed light on the complexities of funding infrastructure in Nigeria, highlighting the crucial role of the public sector and the need for innovative financing mechanisms like infrastructure bonds, concessional loans, and grants. However, he also stated that with capital-intensive infrastructure projects, it is clear the government can not do it alone. Were you part of his session? What are your thoughts on funding infrastructure in Nigeria? #InfrastructureForAll #SustainableDevelopment #SDG9Workshop #SDG9inAfrica

  • By 2024, only 29% of SDG 9 targets are on track, while 15% show regression. The world is off track, and Africa is falling behind. Infrastructure is more than roads and bridges—it’s the backbone of sustainable development, impacting all other SDGs. We cannot afford to wait. It’s time for bold action to build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive industrialisation, and foster innovation. Let’s keep pushing for progress #SDG9inAfrica #sustainabledevelopment #infrastructuredevelopment

Development Officer, One Young World | Passionate about Africa’s infrastructure future

It’s been a year since I graduated from University of Birmingham Law School. I had the privilege of delivering the student speech at the graduation. A major part of my speech was encouraging the class of 2023 to take up space regardless of where their degrees take them. It was important to remind my peers that regardless of where they end up - private practice, court room, government, nonprofit or academia, they can shine as bright as they want to. A year since then, I have gone ahead to start InfraSpotlight an idea that was formed in the summer when I was writing my dissertation on the role of infrastructure in boosting regional trade in Africa. Through InfraSpotlight, I am raising awareness about infrastructure development in Africa, empowering people with the right information to take action. I may never have discovered this if I did not do my postgraduate degree. As law students and graduates, we often see our career journeys as one-way but the opportunities are indeed endless. I am still finding my path but I am super excited for the future. I hope this inspires you too - no matter where your degree takes you, take the space!

  • Everything you need to know about Nigeria’s 2025 budget for infrastructure. The proposed budget for Infrastructure and Transportation is over 1.2 trillion Naira. This amount is approximately $700 billion and is above the recommended infrastructure spending by the African Development Bank Group The budget is a promising start, however the Federal Government needs to take into account potential economic issues that might limit availability of capital to deliver this ambitious budget in the coming year. #Infrastructure4All #SustainableDevelopment #SDG9inAfrica
