INNOAQUA Project reposted this
Great presentation by my colleague Pia Steinruecken today about our work in the INNOAQUA Project on using effluent water from Recirculating Aquaculture Systems (RAS) to grow microalgae. She showed that high nutrient removal rates can be obtained while also achieving high biomass productivities. But all is also dependent on the nutrient levels in the water, which depend among others on the fish size. Further steps in our research will be to check also the micronutrient and contaminant levels (biological and chemical), and develop strategies to deal with these where necessary. Smart sensors and automated process control developed by our project partner INESC TEC are next. So follow our INNOAQUA Project social media and newsletters to stay up to date!
Session 21: Wastewater 💧 (2/2) Very last session of the very last day of AlgaEurope, with 5 very interesting presentations about one promising application sector of algae, wastewater treatment: ➡️ Antonio Gavalás-Olea, PhD (Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences): Galdieria sulphuraria, an extremophile with promising Carbon capture performance through project ALGROW ➡️ Pia Steinruecken (NORCE Norwegian Research Centre): Coupling microalgal production to recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS) at pilot scale ➡️ Marco Mantovani (Università degli Studi di Milano-Bicocca): Removal of different water micropollutants by microalgae-based iron nanoparticles ➡️ Ronald Halim (University College Dublin): Nannochloropsis for the valorisation of side streams from critical agri-food and energy sectors in Europe ➡️ Elena Passalacqua (Università degli Studi di Milano-Bicocca): Optimisation of anaerobic digestion using microalgal-based carbon-encapsulated iron nanoparticles Thank you to the speakers! ————— Don’t forget to follow us on Instagram for live insights (eaba_algae) 😉 Carlos Unamunzaga, Jean-Paul Cadoret, Vitor Verdelho, Lisandra Meinerz, Monique Ras - de Moncuit, Anne Pajot, Léa Braud, Juliette ARMENI-RIPARI, Arianna Rizzo, Christie de Vrij, Silvio Mangini, Kuno Jacobs, Kim Kreuser, Anna Ivanko
