How can sharing on social media lead to the spread of disinformation? 📲 Dr. S. Shyam Sundar and colleagues explored how "shares without clicks"—content shared without being read—fuel misinformation. After analyzing 4,600+ top-shared URLs on Facebook, they uncovered: 1️⃣ 75% of news-related shares were "shares without clicks." 2️⃣ Political alignment plays a role—URLs that align with a user’s ideology were more likely to be shared without engagement. 3️⃣ Extreme content gets more shares—the more politically extreme the content, the more likely it was shared without being clicked.
