Most expensive mistakes I’ve made as a founder (so far): 5. Choosing Twilio Flex to run our call center (2023) 4. Designing a sales comp plan that paid per-application instead of per-close (2007) 3. Hiring a VP of Sales for a 5-person startup (2016) 2. Not hiring a VP of Finance when we hit $50M in sales (2022) 1. Delegating an initiative to a new hire and then not checking in often to guardrail progress (2008, 2009, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2021, 2022, 2023... I can’t seem to stop making this mistake)
