Disability pride isn’t just about celebrating who we are—it’s about owning our stories, standing firm in our truths, and demanding the respect we’ve always deserved. For far too long, society has told us to shrink ourselves, to fit into narrow definitions of worth and capability. But we’re not here to be boxed in. We belong, and we’re done asking for permission to exist unapologetically. Pride is a powerful thing. It’s not loud or showy—it’s rooted. It says, “I see my value, even if you don’t yet.” It’s about embracing the unique ways we navigate the world, the resilience we carry, and the perspective we bring to every room we enter. It’s about saying, “I matter,” not just to those who doubt us but also to ourselves. Self-advocacy is an act of courage, yes, but it’s also an act of love. Love for the kid who never saw themselves reflected in their classrooms. Love for the coworker who struggles in silence, afraid to ask for the accommodations they need. Love for every person with a disability who’s been made to feel invisible or inconvenient. Speaking up isn’t just for us—it’s for them too. It’s for the next generation who deserves better. Self-advocacy isn’t always easy. It’s exhausting to have to educate, to explain, to push back against a system that wasn’t built with us in mind. Some days, it feels like screaming into the void. But here’s the truth: change doesn’t come from silence. It comes from showing up, again and again, even when it’s hard. When we claim our space, we make it impossible to ignore us. When we lift each other up, we show what a powerful, unstoppable community we are. Disability pride isn’t about proving ourselves to anyone. It’s about realizing we never needed to. Let’s share our stories, advocate for what’s right, and call out ableism wherever we see it. Let’s take up space—at work, in schools, in public policy—because every time we do, we’re building a world where pride and self-advocacy aren’t acts of rebellion; they’re just the way things are. We’re not asking for inclusion anymore. We’re claiming it. Because we’ve always belonged. Now it’s time for everyone else to catch up. ID: Debra's quote: "Disability pride isn’t asking for permission to exist—it’s owning our stories, claiming our space, and demanding the respect we’ve always deserved. We belong, not in the shadows of pity or tolerance, but in the light of respect, equity, and unapologetic self-worth." #WeAreBillionStrong #SDGs #AXSChat #DisabilityPride #a11y #Equity
