Every December, at its Annual Meeting, the IGGA presents awards to honor individuals and companies/organizations for lasting contributions made to the grooving, grinding and concrete pavement preservation/restoration industry. Four awards were announced in Dec.: Operator of the Year (Iron Man) Award (presented to three individuals) and the Lester F. Kuzmick Award. We will recognize each winner here over the next few weeks. 2024 is nearly a wrap, and what a year it has been! We welcomed new members; launched a major promotion of diamond grinding at World of Concrete; shared members’ case studies; reported on the history of dowel bar retrofit; shared the facts on Concrete Pavement Preservation, Calcium Sulfoaluminate cement and Next Generation Concrete Surface; traveled “Back to the Future” to spotlight concrete's role in preserving the interstate systems; and hosted an unforgettable annual meeting in Phoenix. Spray sealers are crucial components in concrete pavement preservation (CPP) due to their roles in extending the lifespan and maintaining the integrity of concrete surfaces. Penetrating sealers can keep water out through various mechanisms, including acting as a water repellent, densifying the surface, blocking pores and more. Sealers make it difficult for water to penetrate, while still permitting water vapor to escape, allowing the concrete to dry out.
