Every December, at its Annual Meeting, the IGGA presents awards to honor individuals and companies/organizations for lasting contributions made to the grooving, grinding and concrete pavement preservation/restoration industry. Four awards were announced in Dec.: Operator of the Year (Iron Man) Award (presented to three individuals) and the Lester F. Kuzmick Award. We will recognize each winner here over the next few weeks. Today, we honor Iron Man Award recipient Stuart Tschakert of Interstate Improvement, Inc. Congratulations, Stuart! 2024 is nearly a wrap, and what a year it has been! We welcomed new members; launched a major promotion of diamond grinding at World of Concrete; shared members’ case studies; reported on the history of dowel bar retrofit; shared the facts on Concrete Pavement Preservation, Calcium Sulfoaluminate cement and Next Generation Concrete Surface; traveled “Back to the Future” to spotlight concrete's role in preserving the interstate systems; and hosted an unforgettable annual meeting in Phoenix. We can’t wait for what’s in store in 2025! #HappyNewYear

Spray sealers are crucial components in concrete pavement preservation (CPP) due to their roles in extending the lifespan and maintaining the integrity of concrete surfaces. Penetrating sealers can keep water out through various mechanisms, including acting as a water repellent, densifying the surface, blocking pores and more. Sealers make it difficult for water to penetrate, while still permitting water vapor to escape, allowing the concrete to dry out. This process helps maintain the structural integrity and appearance of concrete surfaces over time. Learn about penetrating sealers here: https://ow.ly/clp750Uupcc

Rut repair is essential in maintaining the smoothness and safety of #concrete #pavement. Ruts can lead to water accumulation and increased wear on vehicles. Repairing these ruts helps restore the pavement's profile, improving ride quality and reducing the risk of hydroplaning. This process is a key part of pavement preservation, as it addresses surface irregularities that can lead to more significant structural issues if left unattended. A promising repair material, calcium sulfoaluminate (CSA) #cement, is a cost-effective, easy-to-use and longer-lasting repair material to remediate pavement ruts. Rut repair contributes to the overall goal of CPP to extend the service life of pavements, improve safety, and reduce the need for more extensive and costly repairs. We are partnering with calcium sulphoaluminate (CSA) cement manufacturers CTS Cement Manufacturing Corporation and FasTrac Construction Products to promote and grow the #concrete #pavement patching, preservation and restoration market for our members. CSA cement, known for its fast-setting and high-strength development, is used in concrete applications for bridges, runways and road repairs. Not only does CSA cement set quickly and increase the strength of concrete, but it also helps remove shrinkage and has a low carbon footprint. Learn more here: https://ow.ly/mr0W50UonNu
