Check IRSCA's Instagram! https://lnkd.in/deEByKUZ ▪️After catching the ball a rugby player needs to gain as much speed as possible to either change direction or hit the opponent with the most strength available. ▪️Once the contact is established it is necessary to gain as much ground as possible with the opponent (or few of them) hanging on to you (carry dominance). ▪️To do that a player has to overcome his own body weight, his opponent’s body weight and additionally opponent’s overall strength. ▪️That’s why modified strongman training where heavy weight is pushed, carried or dragged correlates greatly to rugby performance. ▪️It teaches the player to overcome external resistance in locomotion, repeatedly, which is exactly what he experiences on the pitch.
