A new study by Mustafa Jibrin et al., published in the October issue of MPMI, explores the unique evolutionary and epidemiological events of Xanthomonas hortorum pv. gardneri—the major pathogen behind tomato bacterial spot disease. Genomic analysis of global strains from countries on three continents reveals regional genomic diversity, minimal recombination, and a key plasmid acquisition for copper tolerance.
