Hiba has faced more challenges in her young life than most, and her strength is nothing short of remarkable. Diagnosed with FSGS at just four-years-old, she spent much of her childhood on dialysis, facing delays in her growth, learning, and even socialization. But through it all, Hiba remained strong, waiting for the day her life would change. 💪 That change came thanks to her big sister, Iqra. When their mom wasn’t a match for a kidney transplant, Iqra was tested and miraculously, she was a 100% match. According to the doctors this is a very rare occurrence, so Iqra considers this nothing short of a “Miracle from God.” 🙏 Now, Hiba has a bright future ahead. She’s healthy, thriving, and ready to live the life every child deserves. To celebrate this bond, the sisters wear matching “Donor” and “Recipient” necklaces as a beautiful symbol of the love that saved Hiba’s life. After months of hard work, the film was shown at Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital in the Child Life Zone with a special screening for patients and families. Meet Dr. Monica Arroyo, a highly respected and beloved physician at Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital. Her journey into medicine began at UCSF, where a mentor inspired her to pursue pediatric neurology. Now, she makes a difference every day here at the hospital. Although she had to leave her hometown, Santurce, Puerto Rico, to follow her dreams, she always makes it a point to visit her family at every opportunity. Outside of the hospital, Dr. Arroyo is a proud mom of two kids and two adorable pups: Kami, a Pomeranian, and Frida, a Chihuahua. She also takes her “Titi duties” seriously, helping her niece and nephew with school drop-offs when she visits them in Hollywood. One of her favorite pastimes is tending to her orchid collection, a passion inspired by her grandparents, who were avid orchid collectors. “I grew up going to orchid shows and surrounded by orchids of all colors and shapes,” she shares. After a year of care and patience, she’s especially proud that her Taiwanese hybrid orchid has finally bloomed!
