The Joint Trauma System is saddened to note the passing of Colonel Warner D (Rocky) Farr. In addition to his many medical leadership roles in the Special Forces community, COL Farr made time to work with the JTS on every aspect of battlefield trauma care. He was a charter member of the Committee on Tactical Combat Casualty Care and a regular participant in that group‘s activities for over a decade. COL Farr will be missed greatly by his many friends and colleagues at the JTS. COL(R) Warner "Rocky" Farr will be laid to rest at the National Cemetery at Fort Sam Houston, San Antonio, Texas at 10:45 a.m. on Friday, December 20, 2024.  

INDOPACOM Casualty Care Conference: Limb Salvage Missions in Ukraine In February 2023, Dr. Andrew Bauder traveled to Uzhhorod, Ukraine with a team of surgeons to assist Ukrainian colleagues. His work focused on improving the clinical and technical competency of the Ukrainian surgeons – especially in the domain of bone and aligned tissue repair. Thorough review this past Tuesday of a motor vehicle - pedestrian polytrauma case presented by NH Guam providers. Here are CDR Brill's takeaways: 1. Trauma activation pre-arrival depends on good EMS communication. 2. Early activation of MTP is associated with improved survival. 3. OCONUS “community hospitals” are absolutely able to treat and hold critically ill patients; the success of definitive treatment then depends on timely evacuation to a higher echelon facility. 4. The trauma system developing in Guam has already improved care for individual patients and lessons learned should be disseminated via the Guam RAC Join JTS every second and fourth Tuesdays for presentations that focus on trauma management and innovations. Combat Casualty Care Conference: Airdropping Blood For many casualties, receiving blood in a timely manner is the determining factor in survival. Maintaining a robust blood supply, however, presents several difficulties such as storing and resupplying inventory.
