Did you know December 1st-7th is National Handwashing Awareness Week?!🧼 Washing your hands properly is always vital, but it takes on added significance during the winter. This time of year is frequently referred to as "sick season" due to a variety of factors and a few being: 👥Indoor Crowding: As temperatures drop, people spend more time indoors in close proximity to others, increasing the chances of virus transmission. 💨Dry Air: Cold, dry air can irritate the respiratory tract, making it more susceptible to infection. 😷Weakened Immune Systems: Cold weather can weaken the immune system, making it harder for the body to fight off infections Follow along with Carissa Elphick, our Senior Director of Advancement, to properly wash your hands and avoid spreading germs! #nationalhandwashingawarenessweek #PublicHealth #WashYourHands #Winter

We wrapped up our 8-week evidence-based program, Aging Outside the Lines, through The Foundation for Art & Healing 🎨🧑🎨🖼️ at Plymouth Regional Senior Center. Over the past weeks, older adults have had the opportunity to get outside their comfort zone through various art projects requiring imagination and critical thinking. We created a space for older adults to build stronger connections with one another and themselves.🤝 Thank you to all our participants over these past 8 weeks; we wish you all well! 😊 Please get in touch with us if you would like WellnessLink to conduct this excellent evidence-based program at your location!

Influenza Vaccination Week: A Reminder to Protect Yourself and Your Loved Ones.💪 The Influenza Vaccine is important because it: 🦠Reduces the risk of getting the flu: The vaccine works by preparing your immune system to fight off the flu virus. While it's not a perfect shield, it significantly reduces your chances of getting sick. 🦠Lessens the severity of illness: Even if you do get the flu after being vaccinated, the vaccine can help make your illness milder, with fewer symptoms and a shorter recovery time. 🦠Prevents serious complications: The flu can lead to serious complications like pneumonia, bronchitis, and even death. The vaccine helps protect you from these potentially life-threatening consequences. 🦠Protects vulnerable populations: The flu can be especially dangerous for young children, older adults, and people with underlying health conditions. Getting vaccinated helps protect these vulnerable groups. 🦠Reduces the spread of the flu: When more people are vaccinated, it creates a "herd immunity" effect, making it harder for the flu virus to spread within communities. 🦠Reduces healthcare burden: By preventing flu illnesses and hospitalizations, the vaccine helps ease the burden on healthcare systems. Remember, the flu vaccine is updated annually to target the most likely flu strains circulating each season. It's recommended that everyone 6 months and older get vaccinated each year. #vaccine #InfluenzaAwareness #vaccinationweek2024 #stayprotectedstayinformed #publichealth
