The first day of the 35th Annual Ledyard Classic kicks off today at Dartmouth's Thompson Arena in Hanover, New Hampshire! Teams from Dartmouth, Alaska Anchorage, Northeastern, and Providence will take to the ice for this exciting college ice hockey tournament, a tradition founded in 1978. Fans are in for some great matchups and plenty of action. Wishing all the teams the best of luck as they compete for the championship! Wishing you wisdom and joy this Kwanzaa! Kwanzaa is a time for families and communities to come together to remember the past and to celebrate African American and pan-African culture. Created in 1966 by Maulana Ron Karenga, Kwanzaa takes place from December 26th to January 1st. Each day celebrates a principal of the Nguzo Saba: Day One: Umoja – Unity Day Two: Kujichagulia – Self-Determination Day Three: Ujima – Collective Work and Responsibility Day Four: Ujamaa – Cooperative Economics Day Five: Nia – Purpose Day Six: Kuumba – Creativity Day Seven: Imani – Faith Kwanzaa gets its name from the Swahili phrase, “matunda ya kwanza” or first fruits, and is rooted in first fruit celebrations which are found in cultures throughout Africa both in ancient and modern times. Participants celebrate with poetry, feasts, music, dance, narratives and the lighting for red, black and green candles. From all of us here at Ledyard, “Habari gani?” or “What is the news?”

Thanks to your incredible generosity, we’ve raised $6,825 in our final year of Holiday Hair for the Haven, bringing the total raised since 2020 to over $32,000 for the Upper Valley Haven! A heartfelt thank you to Nicolaas Bekker, our Norwich Financial Center Manager, for making this annual tradition a reality for the past 5 years. Your unwavering commitment to embracing every hair color chosen by the community for such a meaningful cause has been truly inspiring.
