Great start to EDUC 7452 Teaching Reading with graduate students at Boston College learning how to be a teachers of language. Students observed a demo lesson that infused purposeful language to activate background knowledge through discussion and use of key vocabulary words grounded in a shared text. My favorite comment of the night, "I can't believe all of these components were embedded into a reading lesson." All roads lead to language...

My time at MGH Institute of Health Professions in the Speech Language (SAiL) Literacy Lab led by Tiffany Hogan has been truly the most impactful learning experience of my career. Dr. Hogan and her team (special shout out to Katharine Radville, PhD, CCC-SLP and KaRynn Sheranian for their mentorship) exemplifies what it means to "dive into the chaos" on the ground side by side with practitioners. This has further proven my belief that RPPs and implementation science will drive meaningful change at scale. As I transition into the next phase of my learning journey, I am fortunate to work alongside another incredible team at the READS Lab at Harvard University for a summer project led by James Kim and join the dynamic team at Boston Children's Hospital, as part of the LD Neurology Program under the mentorship of Margaret Pierce. It takes a village to ensure all children can reach their human potential and I am in awe of the amazing villages I have been apart of and am fortunate to continue to learn from.
