At this week’s 💻  #virtual  Moxie (Academic Insight Lab) #Meetup, we kicked off our practice with a 🎵concert theme icebreaker, proving that music unites us all, whether we’re fans of the Stones, Nicki Minaj, Willie Nelson, Mariah Carey, or Dolly Parton. When we openly share a little about ourselves, it builds trust that facilitates the dialogue in our community learning session. 🔢 🔑 Key takeaways from Kimberly Pace Becker, Ph.D. “show and tell”: 1️⃣ Explored how to navigate Moxie's new website's homepage and the resources available 2️⃣ Revisited the AI literacy framework, central to Moxie’s ethos, that builds on Selber’s 2004 framework for digital literacies. The rhetorical component of the three elements framework was demonstrated with successive prompts, probing, and unpacking to get more clarity on the topic.  3️⃣ Demonstrated how to seamlessly toggle between the Premium tools (ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, and Perplexity) in the Moxie subscription  4️⃣ Shared tips on AI tools like Perplexity, a platform that accesses the internet, and Semantic Scholar for research. I especially enjoy the weekly live Meetups Moxie offers to subscribers. It's a #brave space where participants can ask questions and immediately apply insights to their #research and #writing. When you are just starting to learn academic writing, you don’t know what you don’t know.  Kimberly covered the three aspects of research writing: depth, flow, and accuracy. Moxie covers the first two, and then she recommended tools like Grammarly and ReciteWorks, for accuracy. This project was a journey filled with learning and challenges, and I couldn’t have done it without some incredible support along the way.🙏✨ Our project is a 𝗖𝗡𝗡-𝗕𝗮𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗠𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗰 𝗚𝗲𝗻𝗿𝗲 𝗖𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 🎶 that uses deep learning to analyze audio features and accurately classify songs into genres. It automates genre detection with high accuracy and efficiency, making it ideal for large-scale music categorization tasks.🎧💻 It was exciting to see how powerful AI can be in helping organize and understand music in new ways!🌟 ✨ Huge thanks to my supervisor, Hamza Saleem, who guided me through each step and always had great advice whenever I hit a roadblock. His encouragement made every challenge feel a bit easier! 💡 A special shoutout to Mam Anza Islam, who first sparked my interest in AI in my 7th semester. I just found out that aspirational data training AI is challenged by bias. Um….yeah…..duh?🙃 (Ok to still use duh?) AI is literally changing every form of our research and communication (and more)…so why not fix aspirational data to KNOW our aspirations?🧠 Start by figuring out your own aspirations. No one else knows them….especially AI. Yesterday I spoke with two women who gave me beautiful visions of their goals. “In three years I want to move to Europe and travel to a different city each 3 months. I’ll generate income through fractional work and plan to grow old as an explorer.” “I want to send my future grandkids to a special summer camp that meant the world to me and my kids.” Beautiful. Personal. Aspirations. What are yours?

I'm excited to share my latest project: a Real Time Hand Gesture Recognition System for Sinhala Language!🎉 This system leverages image processing and machine learning techniques to recognize hand gestures in real time, enabling communication in Sinhala through natural hand movements. It’s been a great learning experience working on this, and I look forward to exploring its potential in enhancing accessibility and bridging language barriers.
