About us
Lighting Workshop is a full-service architectural lighting consultancy. By combining strong creative drive and technical expertise, we offer our clients and partners imaginative design solutions uniquely suited to their needs. We practice from the deep conviction that good lighting design – and the dynamic visual environments that emerge from it – should be richly experiential in a fundamentally human way. We shape lighting to connect built environments with the people who live, work, shop, and play in them. We also believe that successful lighting design satisfies clients in a broader context so we are committed to working side-by-side with all project team members to establish and fulfill budgets, as well as sustainability, maintenance and constructability guidelines. A project succeeds when it exceeds your expectations – visually, emotionally, and practically – and you want to engage us on the next one.

Lighting Workshop enjoyed collaborating with Architecture Plus Information (A+I) on this award-winning sustainable repositioning project, which recharged this 1980s office tower located in the heart of New York City into a green oasis. With a biophilic focus that is centered around greenery and nature, the plant-filled lobby features programmable and tunable lighting from the backlight louvered skylight above, mimicking daylight. This indoor sanctuary offers a full-service coffee bar, lower-level collaborative spaces, and the subterranean restaurant Lafolia, an underground escape which fosters a warm and welcoming ambiance. Collaborating with Spectorgroup, the primary focus was to stay true to the SpringHill Company’s brand while bringing it into a new space, energizing each area with unexpected lighting schemes. Embracing SpringHill’s multidisciplinary work across entertainment, culture, fashion, sports, and technology was essential in creating an environment that reflects the company's dynamic identity.

Lighting Workshop enjoyed collaborating with the Paramount Group, Manhattan St. Studio, Kramer Design Group, Pulk Design, and LB Architects on the exquisite Paramount Club in Midtown Manhattan. Every space within the 32,000 square foot club offers a sense of luxury, with rich combinations of architectural materials, patterns, and thoughtful details. At the atrium, an expansive color-tunable back-lighted ceiling above the double-height space softly suffuses the main space with light that reflects time of day. Backlighted brass fins compose the double height walls, creating a constant golden hued shimmer. The atrium dining room and lounge below are softly illuminated with decorative sconces and integrated millwork lighting. Members can also access the club's fireplace lounge, business center, game room, cafe, auditorium, private dining rooms, and wellness center. Throughout these spaces, rich materials are enhanced with ambient warm-toned lighting. Timeless decorative light fixtures add a sense of opulence. The overall ambience of each room creates a sense of indulgent retreat. See more: https://lnkd.in/eEw6qMWH

The only high rise designed by Eero Saarinen, "Black Rock", also known as the CBS Building, stands as a New York City landmark in Midtown Manhattan. Refreshing the plaza, lobby, and lower level while honoring Saarinen’s design vision, Vocon and MdeAS Architects thoughtfully enhanced the overall tenant experience with gracious amenities and restored finishes. Working with Vocon on the lobby and lower level, Lighting Workshop brightened the existing dark lobby with a graceful lighting installation, composed of hundreds of LED bi-pin lamps that create a magical “starry night” appearance. Organized in a structural grid composed of brass rods and framing, the custom light feature lends presence and volume to the double-height lobby, but maintains a welcome lightness. At the lower level, the staircase pool is complimented by a continuous recessed glow which reflects and shimmers off the fluted glass walls. In the Forum space which serves as a large conference center, a backlit Newmat ceiling system provides an abundance of ambient lighting. "Lighting Workshop was the perfect lighting design partner for this job,” says Jeanne Chiang, Associate and Project Lead Technical Designer at Vocon. “Their creativity and innovation completed our team. Michael's (Michael Hew Wing) deliberate responsiveness quickly fostered camaraderie, enabling effective conflict resolution in the field and adherence to our demanding project schedule. We look forward to continuing this partnership with more projects to come." See more: https://lnkd.in/eb4QjeBq
